Mike is a very nice kid. He does need to train hard and get in tremendous shape if he wants to win his international bouts.

I'd have to ask someone who saw the match; however, that is the only time Povetkin was ever down in his career. Given, Povetkin got back up and proceeded to RSC Timurziev, or at least that's what I hear, but still. Scoring a KD and putting a scare into the most dominant Super Heavyweight of probably the last 20 years is an achievement.

Nothing like a little hope :TU:

Roberto Cammarelle, Islam Timurziev, Robert Alfonso, Kubrat Pulev, Rustam Saidov, Robert Helenius, Csaba Kurtucz, Viacheslav Glazkov and another 20 names.

Where does Hunter fit in for a medal?

Timurziev might not be going.

At the junior worlds last year, Hunter beat the Russian Alexey Volkov 32-26. Hunter was down 8-1 after the 1st, 14-7 after the 2nd, 22-21 after the 3rd. He had a big 4th rd to pull it out. The Russian was exausted and had to go to the hospital after the bout on a stretcher. It was a great bout. It is not very often that a US boxer can be down on points after the first two rounds and come back, especially when boxing overseas.
Hunter never boxed Fury. Fury was 11-0 going into the jr worlds with 11 KO's. His father is the bare knuckle champ of England. Yes they do have bare knuckle fights in the traveler community like in the movie "Snatch". Most likely it is not legal.
They are keeping Fury amateur for 2012 since London will host the Olympics then. He will be a force to recon with when he gets more experience. With that name, when he turns pro, he'll get a lot of reconition.

Hunter lost in the semis to the Romanian Ciocan Christian 22-15 and Fury lost to the Uzbek boxer Abdullaev Sardor 36-32. It was a close bout. The Romanian won the finals 39-32.

So Fury is another boxer out of the Traveler community? That's interesting! I know there was one other an Olympics or two ago but I can't remember his name.

I think his name was Barrett. He was from Ireland and he later turned pro in England.

Thanks, JMac. I thought he was from Ireland.
The amateur boxer who fought for the Irish Olympic team in 1996 is hardly a household name in the United States, but in Ireland he's a most unlikely national hero. Barrett is a Traveller, a sort of Irish gypsy raised in poverty and treated as a second-class citizen.

His whirlwind rise from hometown club boxer in Galway to Olympic athlete and national contender becomes a defining cultural moment in Irish society that, according to sportswriter Tom Humphries, throws Ireland's racism into focus.

When Barrett was chosen to carry the Irish flag into the 1996 Olympic games, one politician remarked he was ashamed to be represented by a man who "never worked a day in his life" (which only shows that every country has its John Rockers).

Both Hunter and Fury lost in the semi-finals of that world juniors.

They later fought(against each other)on a USA/England dual here in England, where Fury won a pretty close fight(according to reports)

Since then, Fury has lost to the British number one, David Price.Where the young Fury was handed a bit of a lesson, which will serve him well in the long run(Price is pretty good fighter.Probably in the worlds top 15-20 at the moment.)
