Mundine would face Calzaghe in England

The same can't be said of Mundine. He's despised in Australia. He turned to pro boxing in 2000 with all the grace of a pro wrestler, belittling Hall of Famer Jeff Fenech's achievements in the ring, and labelling all boxers 'bums'. He also labelled Queenslanders 'rednecks' prior to his big fight with Rick Thornberry (which was held in Queensland), and recently had a crack at Olympic gold medalist Kathy Freeman, saying running is 'nothing' and she is not a 'real aborigine'. His comments about September 11 only add to his dubious resume.adamiw wrote:I dont think he understands that team sports like Rugby and Football are different to sports like boxing. No one in england hates Calzaghe for the fact he's welsh and he has plenty of fans here.
As Lester Ellis said prior to his farcical comeback fight with Mundine last year: "Ninety-nine per cent of people say I can't win, but 99 per cent of people want me to win."
Adam, you are such a hypocrite at times its unbelievable, you were slagging off the Welsh on another forum and now this...adamiw wrote:I dont think he understands that team sports like Rugby and Football are different to sports like boxing. Calzaghe is supported well all over the UK as he is well established and could sell out 15,000 capacity arenas with ease now

Agreed, I would of liked to see him take this fight but i'm sure I read somewhere Branco's now taking on Fabrice Tiozzo. After that looks like his mandatory DM. Unless DM wants Gonzalez again.
In regards to Mundine I can't see this fight happening for another year. Mundine wants a lot of money to fight Joe.
I'd have far more respect for Joe if he dumped the WBO title and either negotiated a high ranking at light heavyweight or try and fight an eliminator with Vanderpool for the IBF title.
Anything’s better than fighting his mandatory Mkrtchyan.
Will Calzaghe still be boxing at Super Middleweight next year?
He has already suggested that he may make the move to light heavy for new challenges, and he has had a few problems making the weight just recently.
It’s very frustrating that he has wasted so many years, but we can only hope he may meet more challenging opponents in the future.
For the record I think Mundine would be a very dangerous opponent, but I would still pick Calzaghe to win.
Can’t see this one happening unfortunately.

I believe Calzaghe is increasingly finding it harder to make the weight at SM, all this looking for new challenges is a red herring. He isn't even undisputed No.1 at SM at the moment so the tests are there, Ottke, Larsen, Lucas, Green, Beyer, Vanderpool, Mundine...more than enough live opposition there to keep things humming until the "Big Fight" comes along.
