Shropshire's most famous boxing son believes Roddy Doran's superior technique will give him the edge when he takes on Damon Hague tonight.
Former WBC super-middleweight champion Richie Woodhall will be at ringside in Derby's Storm Arena for the biggest fight of Doran's career.
Woodhall said: "It is a great chance for Roddy and if he gets his tactics right, there is no reason why he can't take it.
"I have seen Hague fight a number of times and he just keeps coming forward and likes to put you under a lot of pressure.
"The key to Roddy winning this fight is not to get involved in a brawl and just to rely on his technique to pick Hague off because if he does that he has an excellent opportunity.
"I have had a bit of a chat with Roddy and put him right on his training and his running and I am sure he is 100 per cent fit for this fight.
"If he could pull it off it would be great for Shropshire boxing because, while we are very strong on the amateur side of the sport, there has been a bit of a void in the professional game since my retirement.
"But hopefully Roddy can win this fight and spark everybody's interest off again."
While tomorrow night's fight is an official eliminator for Robin Reid's IBF super-middleweight title, Woodhall is adamant that Shrewsbury's Doran should remain at middleweight, win or lose.
He added: "If Roddy stays at super-middleweight I fear there may be the odd problem because he will be coming up against fighters with the same physique and stature as me and he will struggle.
"He is an out and out middleweight and while he will get away with it against Hague, because he is also a middleweight, he will struggle in the long run. If he can beat Hague, he has every chance of fighting for one of the world titles at that level."
