Witter v Hatton... It Has To Happen !

Post by MPG »

We all know money talks in boxing but surely pride is another thing...

Witter wouldnt fill a phone box but has been asking Hatton to fight for years.
Hatton will have to step back and think,I have made enough money and once and for all...Shut up Witter.

I think this fight will come off tho,Hatton wont beat Mayweather and where's does leave him....Witter!

If it were up to the promoters the fight would have happened by now.

With regards to the fight if it were to happen. Witter would give Hatton nightmares in the first 4 rounds but beyond that we all I think know what the result would be.

The fight is not happening due to what I believe it Hatton's dislike of Witter and in addition in my opinion the advice that may have been given to Witter to constantly call out Hatton, instead of concentrating on his own career.

Junior Witter has proved he is a world class boxer and that he could possibly go onto win other titles - why oh why does he constantly go on about Hatton?

witter does not sell tickets but against hatton he would not have too, the event would fill the majority of venues in britain due to the rivalry and the inquisitive nature of the british boxing fans.

the majority of hattons fans are farnell fans that have moved on anyway, thats who ricky stole them from when the fighters were both on the same bill.. :TU:

i think witter v hatton should happen, for the sake of british boxing !!

Its doesnt have to happen. Witter for the first time in his life pulls out a good preformance and now its "it must happen shit". Bollocks, if Witters next few preformances are vgood/great then it makes it more likely. Too much bullshit and talking comes from Witter.

22,000 farnell fans. 8)

your talking about the very early days when they were boxing in small hall venues.

hatton was more than helping shifting those seats by 2001 on his own. :TU:

Reasons why Hatton could fight Wiiter...

Witter WBC Champion....

The fight would certainly fill most venues in the country so the money would be there.

Hatton dislike for Witter.

Witter calling him out everytime his on the tv saying that his the number 1.

Reason for not figthing Witter...

SCARED!!!

I think Hatton beats Witter but some dont.If he accepted the fight then he would put all the doubters to sleep.

Plus it would be a cracking fight.

I think Hattons wins and gives Witter a good pasting...
What i dont like is,when somebody offers you out over and over again and you dont do something about it.

Just like Khan boosting about being the uk's number 1 and urging the other british fighters to fight him becouse soon it will be too late and when thaxton offers him to fight for free..Khan acts as if he just shited himself by not taking up the offer.

Said this in another post but I feel the need to repeat it.

Hatton is fighting the #1 P4P fighter, at a weight in which he is not confortable it and the favourite is the main champion of the world in, in the fighters home town.... and he is scared of Witter?

I'm not intending to disrespect Witter, but come on... what the feck more can Hatton prove... He is giving the P4P #1 fighter all the advantages and people are still being critical, jesus.

If Hatton wins this fight its the single greatest achievement in British boxing. Even Randy Turpin had home advantage vs SRR.

If Hatton ducked Mayweather and fought say Ricardo Torres, Paulie Malginaggi or even Kermit Cintron - people would go absolutely ballistic... and righfully so. However, really thats all Witter still is.. just he happens to come from the UK. As I said before, say Hatton drops his fight vs Mayweather - fights Witter instead. Then what, is it Mayweather or Gavin Rees that will satisfy the British public more? After all Gavin Rees is a world class Brit who has called out Ricky.

That is one thing that annoys me with fickle boxing fans (I am as fickle as anyone I know) is when people moan that a fighter is scared of someone when they have signed to fight someone more renowned and generally considered more dangerous. Like the criticms Floyd Maweather got for "Ducking" Antonio "Beaten by Daniel Santos, lucky vs Joshua Clottey" Margarito and fighting DLH with Oscar having all the major advantages (even promoting the show!). Similarly in some quarters amazingly people said Roy Jones chose John Ruiz cause he was scared of Michaelswecki... a notion that doesn't make sense IMO.

The argument is not that he should fight Witter insted of Mayweather, it is that for years he hasn't fought Witter choosing to fight everyone from Mike "no joke" Stewart or Dennis Holbaek Pedersen to Juan Urango more recently. You could not argue that any of these fights would ether have offered more money or been more interesting.

That is poor form, particularly when he used to speak about it so much. Also I remember watching witter fight on a hatton undercard (I think Vince Phillips) and hearing dissrespectful wankers who would never grow a pair and step in the ring singing "Witter is a rent boy" from the crowd, so its no wonder Junior wants to shut those idiots up.

Now you have a point here, and the fans were out of order for saying it (I don't think what these "fans" said should really be part of the argument). However there is a lot of inconsistencies about what happend during the earlier part of their career. I am sure Boxingchat will inform, but while I am not accusing him of being wrong its not what Team Hatton has said about the situation. You can only have to look at Ricky's face in THAT interview with Adam Smith after one of the lesser opponents to know he is not happy with the situation. I am sure Boxingchat will point out otherwise... I can remember Hatton and Witter practically being certain to fight after the Vince Phillips fight - but I'm sure I read that the cut Hatton suffered prevented it from happening at the desired date (again, perhaps Boxingchat will offer more knowledge).

Mike No Joke Stewart actually got him his fight with Kostya Tszyu - IBF eliminator, so that was an important fight for Ricky.

I am sure its a promoters dream to get his fighters fighting each other at their maximum level... and I honestly think that had Warren had both fighters when one was a geniune world champion - then it would have been their first defence. I don't want to sound like I am passing the buck, but I am blooming sure if Witter had fought Pinto for the WBO title, Hatton vs Witter would have happend by now. Both were FW fighters, you could give it geniune world championship status and for the only time in their career Witter had something that Hatton needed. That was the best opportunity, although if Hatton would have won the WBO title and meant him never fighting Tszyu - then I am glad it didn't happen.

Your spot on regarding Urango, I was an still am APPAULED by that match up - no excuses for it at all - the one backward step Ricky has made in which I cannot understand or defend since Tszyu... but I don't believe Witter was ever considered by team Hatton - I am also not sure that it would have been very nice for Witter to go through a HARD defence so soon after training and fighting for Corley. Whilst I was dissapointed in the Morua match up, I didn't EXPECT Witter to be facing King Kong and completely understood that a mark time defence was the right thing to do.... either that or wait a few months before fighting an elite fighter.

I am not saying that the people are wrong for wanting to see Hatton vs Witter or for being dissapointed that it hasn't happend already... believe me, I am one of them. What I am annoyed with though is that people are calling Hatton scared of Witter, when you only have to consider the monumental task he has ahead of him... For me, far harder and more daunting than Witter in Britain at "His" weight.

Dont tell me the FM who fought ZJ and ODLH was the same FM who fought DC and AG, light years apart. FM was untouchable at the lower weights up to 140, RH beats him in Dec

Was Witters performance on Friday exciting enough for the neigh sayers??? Witter Versus a come forward fighter makes a great spectacle IMO. That performance against a top class fighter should be another tick in the box of Ricky Hattons ever increasing list of requirements for Junior to fight him.

Ricky has little to lose when he fights PBF/Mosley/Cotto at 147, all along Hatton has said hes a 140 fighter. If Hatton moves upto 147 and fights an aforementioned widely recognised great, then if he loses people say he was fighting out of his weightclass against one of the best in the game, whereas he has plenty to lose if he fights Witter he goes from the best in the world at 140 to not even being the best in the north of England....thats why Hatton is very reluctant (some may say scared) to fight Junior.

If Hatton beats Mayweather then he'll probably get the winner of Mosley or Cotto, if he doesn't beat Mayweather then surely he has to fight Junior at 140?? If Ricky keeps saying he is a natural 140 fighter then surely he has to fight the best in the division which is Junior Witter.

Juniors Gonna Get Ya!!!

Vivian Harris and Ricky Hatton are two completely different prospects in the ring.

Hatton catches up with Witter and dominates the 2nd half of their fight(if it ever happens)taking a clear decision.

As I have said before, good win for Junior.

But I just can't see Hatton giving Witter that much thought right now for two reasons...
1.He does'nt want to give Witter the payday
2.He has a certain FLOYD MAYWEATHER in his sights, who poses a bigger problem in the ring than 2 Junior Witters. :TU:

Some comments on this thread are ridiculous.

"What I don't like is if someone 'offers you' out enough times, and you don't do something about it..."

Are we really talking about two world class boxers or two snivelling kids in the playground :TU:

It's amazing what one good win does to certain fans out there.
Some could always point to Maussa's quicker finish of Harris and say Witter still has plenty to prove could'nt they?

Not if they'd seen both fights they couldn't. Harris was obviously out of condition and fought a poor fight against Maussa.

I agree, Harris looked cack against Maussa but it's still a valid point.

Excuses are ten a penny for fighters losing.
Facts state the great Carlos Maussa, who was dispatched conclusively by both Hatton and Cotto, knocked out Junior Witters greatest conquest, in less time

Junior should respecxt that Hatton has bigger things on his plate right now, and concentrate on building on this fine win.

Hatton would have problems through 12 rds vs Witter. I think Witter does fight up to the opponent. IMO Witter's development suffered from being avoided by the type of ppl you gradually build your career up with. His whole EBU reign was like 1 big void.

Whereas Hatton, in his WBU reign, was able to gradually improve and deal with different styles.

Now Witter has shown he can put it together. It won't just be a case of Hatton overcoming problems for 4 rds and dominating the rest. Ricky had hell with Collazo and Magee. Witter's harder to hit and actually has footwork, unlike the stationary Collazo and Magee.

Beliece me, Ricky would take horrible shots coming in because he can't see 'em coming when they come from unorthodox angles.

Likewise, Witter would struggle with Hatton's pace but I think he's shown he has an extra level and that in a dangerous situation he will take it to another level.

It'd be a great fight. But we shouldn't complain about it never happening before. What if 1 of them had got ruined? We wouldn't have then both as world champs now, would we?

If Ricky beats Floyd, and I know he can, he can do whatever he wants. But he can't fight those big welters because it would be horrendous matchmaking from his POV. I hope he beats Floyd but that all his big fight options dry out, leaving him basically at 140 to clear things up.

Vince Phillips stopped Tyszu faster than Hatton, which is his greatest win and that version of Tyszu was nearer his prime and got properly ko'd :o

Agreed that Witter needs to move on because he won't get Hatton for at least 12 months anyway and there are good fights out there for him
