How do people think Carl Froch would do vs Anthony Mundine

Post by josh fg »

I was just thinking if he wants to step up and get the EBU belt in his next fight then I think this is a very winable fight which would give him major Kudos.

He should go straight for the world, no time to waste.. if Kessler beats Calzaghe, im sure he'd be desperate for that one anywhere..

Indeed but nether of them are in a hurry to fight him and I think a resonable fight to take and would show if Froch is world class or not and Mundie offers a good gate keeper.

I dont think Froch will wanna hang around after beating Reid and he'd have more chance gettin a shot at the winner of Berrio - Bute for the IBF than Calzaghe or Kessler.

If Joe wins he'll either fight Taylor, Pavlik or go up to LH but if not i think we could see Froch Kessler unification by the end of 2008.

Froch gets outboxed by superior handspeed. Mundine has a china chin though.

It's gone a bit quiet. Does anyone know if Mundine will box again?

In Oz, Froch would do very well to beat Mundine - and Mundine doesn't travel. Plus, it's hard to forget how bad Froch looked against slippery Aussie Dale Westerman.

Mundine would get walked down and stopped late IMO, will Mundine fight again though?

I too thought Mundaine had been retired due to the eye injury.

I saw a report saying he may never fight again, but I haven't seen anything confirmed

Mundine would beat Froch, Mundine is getting better with each fight and apart from Kessler and Calzaghe would beat the rest of the 168 pounders rather easily. I think he would also be a nightmare fight for Joe as he has great handspeed and movement. Joe would be fighting someone who is as quick as himself and probably has more Power at this time.

Bad matchup for Carl, as Mundine is fleet of foot, busy and elusive. Think that Frochy would have nightmares with Anthony.

No hasn't, I've seen him take some decent shots.
True, but he was one of the few people to have been knocked out by Sven Ottke. Not exactly one to boast about...

As much as I hate Mudine the KO loss can be attributed more to lack of stamina and ability to pace a fight rather than "bad" chin.

He is no Oliver McCall but he is ok.

He suffered the "german syndrome" which was highly prevalent in the late 90s and earlier 2000's.

Fighters were so sure they would get shafted by a bad decision they went all out early for a KO and if they didnt get it they tired badly down the stretch or got sparked themselves.

Dariusz and Sven made this their bread and butter.

Froch would crush Mundine late....if Mundine sits still for long enough, or if Anthony craps his pants and runs the whole fight, Carl wins on points. Froch is too focussed to lose his way completely against spoliers.

Froch may not look great against the Barney's and Westermans of this world, but he's not alone there, more importantly neither stood a chance of beating Froch and Carl is getting more and more confident and so is his power improving.

The only two super middles at present that I would have Froch starting as clear underdog is against Kessler and Calzaghe, maybe Mads Larsen if gets back to where he once was, but other than that Carl stands a serious chance of beating anyone out there campaigning at 12st.

Mundine's chin is a strange one. He was knocked out cold by Ottke but it was only his 10th contest and he was a novice. He was knocked down by Nishizawa and also by Siaca but both can whack a bit. On the other side of the coin he negotiated 12 rounds with both Danny Green and Antwun Echols and neither hurt him. He was never shaken by Kessler either who can bang a bit. So i'm not convinced Mundine's chin is as bad as some claim.

As for a fight with Froch i think he presents style problems for Carl as his speed and movement is not to Froch's liking. Mundine took the step up to world class IMO the night he demolished Sam Soliman. He is a lot better than some people give him credit for.

I fancy Carl to beat Mundine, but like others on here I read in BN that he's retiring due to an eye injury.

Don't think it's official but seems he is - quite rightly - more interested in sorting his health out as he has a family.....

The shot that Ottke ko'ed him with was to the temple, not the chin. Also he was outboxing Ottke upto that point - no easy task especially for a ten-fight novice.

Was a combination of a great shot to the temple and fatigue if you ask me.

As far as I've seen, there has been no mention of Mundine in the media since the contact lens cleaning incident. Last we heard here was that he still hadn't regained sight a few days after surgery and his career was still up in the air at that stage.

Haye was Knocked down with a temple and why was their questions about his chin?
