Steve Collins in trouble again
Steve Collins in trouble again
FORMER world boxing champion Steve Collins was last night charged with assaulting a woman at his home.
He handed himself into police eight hours after they were called to his house.
Police said: "A woman had received facial injuries. A 39-year-old man was charged with causing actual bodily harm and later released on bail." Officers would not say who the woman was but it is believed to be a girlfriend.
Collins, from Shoeburyness, near Southend, Essex, has spoken of his fight against depression and drinking. He said: "One day I wanted to give away everything to charity and the next I wanted to kill everyone."
In May, he denied rumours that his 12-year marriage to his childhood sweetheart Gemma broke up because of domestic violence.
He said: "I never struck a lady in my life."
This comes after Joe Calzaghe's wife broke her finger after catching it in his pocket. Mandy, 33, said: "I told the nurses I had punched Joe."

Maybe she was trying toget a fiver off Joe?.......... seriously though it's sad to hear what's happening with Steve Collins.... he was obviously devastated when he had to retire... a decision I think he made after he had mysteriously collapsed during sparring.... (does anyone know anymore about the circumstances behind this incident) and he still hasn't come to terms with it.... I remember only a few months ago reading that steve was training for a comeback.... it's a very simular situation to Bruno's.... and Collins, like Bruno was absolutely dedicated to the sport. I really think retiring fighters should be persuaded to have counseling as the end of their fighting career is no less than a bereavement.... part of them (their athletic life) has died, and I think that this only dawns on many fighters as the reality of retirement sinks in.

The only information I have regarding Collins' blackout in sparring was that he was in with Howard Eastman and that if was before the proposed Calzaghe bout.
Remember iron chinned Collins was dropped by an American no hoper in the fight before his retirement - lets hope there is no ill thought out come back stateside.
