Where's Hoppa?

Post by Beltane »

Is there any word that John Hopoate will be resuming his boxing career?

I know he hasn't fought since 18th May this year and had broken his hand. But, there were reports, a month or two ago, in the Manly Daily that Hoppa wanted to resume playing Rugby League in the local park competition.

The Manly Daily mentioned that Hoppa would not be able to play in the local Rugby League, as he was still banned from the sport and had failed to undertake the required courses that would allow him to resume.

Mate the last I heard was that he will fight Les Mason in October.

From the Telegraph a while ago:
FORMER footy bad boy John Hopoate is to fight Willie Mason's brother Les in a heavyweight showdown at the Sydney Entertainment Centre in October. The fight will split sections of league fans, with Mason enjoying huge support from the Bulldogs and Hopoate having a great following with his former teammates at Manly and the Tigers. Good judges who have seen them both in the ring and in training are tipping a Hopoate victory.

Les Mason is set down to fight Brian Fitzgerald on 12 October 07 at Penrith Panthers. Hopoate is set to fight an unknown opponent on the same card.

There's a few decent fighters on that card... Mason, Hoppa and their opponents aren't some of them...

Mason has two other fights before this program, but Hopfrog does not feature as his opponent in either. At least Big Les is staying active.

True and I guess thats all he can do, keep active, get some experience and see how he goes.

It still doesn't mean I enjoy watching him fight though.

... and as for Hoppa, while he wears boxing gloves he will not be able to stick his finger up people's arses.

les Mason stopped Alofa Solifua in the 4th round of a 6 rounder last night. That takes him to 3-0 (2KOs).

All he can do is keep winning. Still no sign of Hopoate.

Saw Les Mason fight last night. Lost a split to Michael Kirby. Looked pretty ordinary. Both men wrestled a fair bit. Les could stand to lose a couple of kilos.
