How good and great is Ted "Kid" Lewis
I would please like to know how good and great is former world welterweight champion Ted "Kid" Lewis? He was the great British fighter version of Henry Armstrong? Does he has the same style as Henry Armstrong and what was his best punch?
Good counter-puncher. Waits or provokes the opponent to start his attack and counters them. Slightly lacking in footwork, it'd be good to take a little step back away from the opponent's rush, to leave himself a little more space for his own punches, and thus he's a little wide, but quite quick with his half-swings to the head (he attacks the body only in clinches). Unlike many other fighters of that epoch, he didn't use the weaving feinting with his hands to confuse the opponent, he's more simple, left hand at the hip, right hand by the waist, both hands static most of the time. But it didn't affect the frequency and accuracy of his punches negatively. Almost doesn't use body movement in defense, suck as ducking under a punch. Works good in the clinches, almost always landing more punches than allowing the opponent to land. Against opponents who are not too eager to move forward, he uses sudden leaps with a swing, and to hide the moment of his attack he uses slight springing moves up and down several times, then jumps forward with head bent low, instantly closing the distance and leaving no time for the counter.
