Collins didn't really do much...

Post by bennie »

Former world boxing champion Steve Collins has appeared in court over allegations that he assaulted his girlfriend.

Irishman Collins, a former WBO middleweight champ, was charged with assault after police were called to his home in Shoeburyness, Essex, last Thursday.

Collins is alleged to have thrown a draining rack and a cup at Joanna Davies before storming out of the house, Southend magistrates heard.

He is then accused of returning and assaulting Miss Davies by catching her head in the door of a fridge.

The prosecution lawyer told the court that despite the initial statement given to police by Miss Davies, she had now issued a retraction.

However, magistrates were asked for further time to review the case.

Collins, 39, has been granted unconditional bail to return to the court on December 16.

Miss Davies, who was in court, left with Collins after the hearing hand-in-hand but the pair refused to comment.

Collins and Miss Davies have two young children. Collins has three children with ex-wife Gemma.

Collins' lawyer Judith Sheldon, speaking on their behalf, said: "They would like the press to respect their privacy after a very difficult morning in court and they would like to get on and make their own personal arrangements and ensure that their children have a happy Christmas."

Can you imagine how busy the police must be in Shoeburyness? They must have died and gone to Heaven when they had the chance to nick a former world boxing champion.

That's complete bollocks, lots of women retract charges in these cases, either because they are scared of the consequences, which I do not think is the case this time, or more likely, because they do not want to see their husband in jail, which is what i think this is all about.

How do you manage to 'catch' someone's head in the door? Sounds like a bit of goodfella's style 'door arranging'

Knockout, that is a pretty moronic comment, ever heard the phrase 'heat of the moment' at all? I'm sure if I was a 140 lb woman, and some 190 lb former world champion boxer husband of mine started slamming my head in the fridge, Id' be pretty freaked out.

I dare say it's not the first bout in the Collins' household either.

true i have never been in that situation, so cannot imagine how i would react.
but if he did do that to her she has to realise that it will probably happen again and therefore she needs to sort it out now....

I've known a number of girls who were physically abused by men for many many years, in fact one of my ex-girlfriends (not by me I hasten to add), was knocked about by her cokehead boyfriend for several years. I don't know how the mindset works, but it's very common for women to become very attached to blokes to hit them, and say things like 'it's only because he loves me so much.'

Still, at least Collins is keeping in shape with a bit of a workout here and there, he seems to have had a more meaningful fight than Calzaghe had with his missus.

That was raging bull, in any case, crazy shit. hope they throw the book at him, or at least move it towards him quickly enough to give him a vague feeling of vertigo and an upset tummy tums.

Seriously, he should go down for this.

Women who suffers domestic violence don't tell people. This is a fact supported by women's groups.

Any women you hear saying "he knocks me about all the time!" is lying.

It's therefore doubtful you've encountered many women who have been knocked about by boyfriends if they happily told you this occured.

Loftgroov, I suppose you've been to a lot of women's groups then have you? So let me get this straight, any woman who says shes been knocked about is a liar, and if they don't mention it then they are telling the truth, oh except of course, nobody

That sounds suspiciously like the old 'sink or swim' witch test during the dark ages, what a moronic comment. You tit!

I think i would know whether or not a woman i lived with for 6 years was lying when she said that her boyfriend had been roughing her up, especially when i went to visit her in in hospital where she was staying with a punctured eardrum and fractured jaw.

I suppose you're the kind of bloke that thinks women who cry rape are liars too?
