Short Rounds for Open Division in PAL Prelims

Post by boxmel »

How do ya'll feel about 3-2 minute rounds in all the prelims, with 4-2's only in the finals???

I don't see any reason for the PAL tournament to do this; it just doesn't make sense. I'll bet if enough coaches and boxers complained, they would have to change it. :box:

Hmmm - interesting point of view. Most of the open boxers, and their coaches, I know don't like the short rounds because they train for 4-2s and to have to adjust from short to normal in the same tournament is rather disconcerting. I really don't understand why PAL and Golden Gloves don't just abide by the rules and do 4-2s like everyone else.

Yeah I remeber the tournaments. The first fights were east and the further you got the more sore you were.

Always hoped you would get the tough fight right away because of the sore factor of fighting every day plus having to make weight on top of it.

Some of the fighters fight week the whole tournament because of this.

4 rounds all the way through is harder, but that is what our boxers have to do in the international tournaments. They should just get used to it so they can succeed in international competitions.

In their defense, both tournaments receive huge turn out, don't they? I imagine PAL; being open to anyone with over 5 fights, is especially high turn out. If thye had 4x2 all the way through, who knows how long those tournaments could last for; and I know I couldn't afford to stay in Southern California in a hotel with a rented car for a week or so. This way they at least can meet time constraints and keep the tournament cost efficient for everyone.

Nah, it's got nothing to do with "time constraints." There aren't the numbers of boxers to warrent cutting down the rounds. It is still a 6 day tournament, even with the women and the Juniors (who finish on Friday). There might be more boxers than are in the GG because of the Juniors and women, but not enough to worry about time. GG doesn't have either the Juniors or the women and they still do 3-2's until the finals.

If your not in shape to fight 4 fights at 4 rounds then don't bother coming is my approach.

Talking about the PAL, I'm wondering if USAB will be posting the boxers that will be at the PAL ?

Short Rounds for Open Division in PAL Prelims

I really don't understand what in the world are we doing?? Are we trying to build athlete's that have the ability to go to the Olympic, and or turn pro?? Pro's go 4-12 3 minute rounds... What ever you are in this for we need to stop candy coating everything and get them use to boxing a minimum of 4 rounds... Why in the world would we box less? Some boxers really need the last round, and some may need more. Those can move into the pro business!!

So lets get them use to only going 3 rounds?? It makes no sense to do anything less then 4 two minute rounds. Our Jo's and novice boxers go 3 two minute rounds... I feel we should build them to be Olympians first, and they go 4 two minute rounds...

The top amateurs should be capable of 4 rounds. Some even box a 5 round main event at a show.

the reason they do 3,2mins in preliminaries is cuz the amount of fights...if they do 4,2 mins they will finish real late and boxers wont have enoght rest for next mourning weigh in plus if they have to shake some pounds they will go to bed real late but i still agaisnt 2,3mins wat they should do is make 2 sessions like they do on USA Championships then PAL should get the JO in a diferent date like GG does..so they can do 4,2min
