I think this kid will be the next great heavyweight, he has alot of potential, and i think he was the youngest kid in the U.S. Championships. And i also think he was the youngest kid ever to win the eastern trials, he was just 16 years old at both tournaments. does anyone agree with me on him?

Joey is a good kid with potential. He has a hard time with tall guys that can box but if you bang with him, he's tough. He lost to Tettis in the Mid Atlantic finals and lost to him at the US Championships. He also lost to a tall Russian in the Alyiev Cup in Azerbaijain.
His grandfather does a great job keeping Joey focused in life.

yes i understand, so do u think if he stays around he will be the 2012 olympian? did u see the fight wen he was over in azerbaijan??

I was in Baku and saw the bout. As for Joey making the '12 Olympic team...anything can happen. Fours years is a long way off. It also gives him a chance to finish higher in the senior division national tournaments and get ranked and get more international bouts. He is a little short at hvt and the taller guys can give him problems. He has time to work on that. The US Olympic hvt is 6'7".
The US boxers all need more international experience, especially in tournaments in Europe.
I would not advise Joey to go pro until after 2012.

I think Joey's grandpa was talking about moving him down to 178#. There are still some tall boxers at 178# such as 6'4" Chris Downs, but there are not as many and they are not quite as tall and strong as some of the tall 201# guys.
