Setanta

Post by chinny »

I think it's becoming clear the emergence of setanta is a good thing for boxing fans. It's very very unusual now that the big US fight's don't get picked up by either them or Sky. Only one I can think of recently is Marquez- Vasquez, when setanta somehow picked Moralez-Diaz the same night.

ESB forum has Diaz-Diaz down as on setanta too, although I'm not sure where this has come from.

Paq-Barrerra 2 is on for three hours from 3-6 next week, but again the repeat is only an hour, so make sure you sky + the live version :TU:

Lets hope they have John Rawling in place commentating too rather than the Top Rank feed. BN seemed to suggest a couple of weeks ago that the deal had been signed now.

my problem would be that they don't show good british match up like Eastman Elock, if I would get Setanta if they showed those matches too and it probably wouldn't cost too much for them.

but while we are waiting for the brittish stuff to come it would be nice to see this one on there.. is this a hennessy bill or have he and Eastman parted company. I remember a few fights ago it looked strained between them.

You're a very naughty boy.

No more fight action for you for rest of the year. Now go to you're room.

Yeah that would be a good one for Setanta to show. They don't seem to have there does seem to be alot of gap in the schedules for live evening sport (I mainly see repeats) so boxing would be ideal.

Or even if Channel 5 showed it this bill on delay, as they did with the McKenzie vs Haymer.

Setanta must cover British Boxing even more than they are doing if they are to succeed in the TV sports stakes.

Get the promoters they have to put on more shows.

Still think a boxing channel would be the way forward and feasable. If a wrestling channel which has to acquire rights from the USA etc can show stuff- then surely a boxing channel could be. Maybe a deal could be had that if you order Setanta then the boxing channel comes with it as a package.

Although that fight+ channel in Europe didn't work, but I thought they did things the wrong way round.

No it is not Stu.

It has been looked into. The running costs does not make it feasible.

Only the truly massive fights get decent amounts of hits.

Whilst it could be possible to have the boxing channel the presentation and standard of production would not be good at all.

What is true is those boxing websites who are starting to come out of the woodwork to show fights on their sites "live" - sites like secondsout.tv are going to be the way forward if TV pull out of the sport altogether.

I think we're fine with Sky and Setanta. You have 2 channels in competition, making an effort to outdo the other. Sky it seemed were slumping a bit but it's good that they picked up that show with Arce and WBC junior fly champ Edgar Sosa, for this Friday and obviously showing Taylor-Pavlik.

If the promoters worked together and formed a syndicate to reduce the production costs. Although with FTM, Hennessey and FA seemingly tied up with Sky and Setanta there is getting less promoters who can show TV worthy fights... but Eastman vs Elcock is certainly one of them

Whilst we moan about the presentation (occasionally) of ITV and Setanta, thats because they are a big outfits. Really both of these are much better than Eurosport's - but because we don't EXPECT Eurosport to have an outstanding plush studio as they do things on the cheap - we don't really care. I've been sent a few shows where it is just a video camera, I've not moaned cause I am so glad I have got it.

The Boxing channel could look at maybe showcasing a delayed version of a Telefutura / Telemundo shows - I'm sure these will not cost the earth... maybe dub them in English, cause I am telling you there are often some absolute belting fights on these bills.

Autobarn - I would have prefered to have seen Eastman vs Elcock live than the Arce bill on delay.

I prefer the Arce card. Here's why: even though I can't stand Arce, Edgar Sosa defended his WBC junior fly title on the undercard. Sosa, from Mexico, is an excellent body puncher and he won this year's fight of the year. He outslugged Brian Viloria in what for me is BY FAR the best fight of 2007 and could be one to watch.

I doubt the Uk promoters could form a syndicate. The sport is free market and all about competition, getting one over on others, and taking the piss when the other "team" doesn't do well.

I wish the Beeb would get back in the action. Their coverage was a bit underrated: the early fights of Haye, Woods winning a world title, the odd major US fight here and there.

Don't get me wrong, I would much prefer to see the Arce bill live than the Eastman bill live "Its all about the world, baby". However, bit of a pain when I know the results. I used to really like the Sunday morning delayed stuff.

I wish Setanta would make their mind up regarding the Woods show - three different days I have check and on these three different days it has changed on the Sky EPG. First it was originally 10-11 on Setanta 1, then it was 10-11 on Setanta 2, followed by 11-1 on Setanta 1. Now its 9 - 12:15 on Setanta 2.... Which one is it?!

I think the emergence of Setanta is extremely good news for boxing, after all if they did not show boxing who would - no that is not me admitting to accepting the best out of a bad deal - I genuinally think Setanta have some ambitious ideas for boxing.

What is important and I am just as guilty as everyone on here is we write down some positive comments concerning a particular show or overall comments concerning coverage - I say this as it seems to be a trait that the only things that shine through on these forums is criticisms and surely that cannot be good.

It is a fact the promoters and their teams read these forums and that now includes the executives from the various TV channels - if they do not do this regularly they certainly have someone from the PR & Marketting teams reading the various sites to canvas what the public opinion is on various fighters or opinions on shows - I say this as it is important that these TV companies are ploughing money into boxing and sometimes just sometimes it is nice to receive some positive feedback.

Fight Academy have a contract with Setanta - not Ricky Hatton not Clinton Woods - besides Clinton Woods will win - but it will be a tough fight.

Enjoyed the Woods fight last night, the undercard was decidedly average though. As for the production Steve Bunce is attrocious as the front man. His opening introduction was amateurish to say the least. He warmed up a bit but still poor. Surely they could get someone better?

Bunce is a poor front man, but the boxing is boxing and woodhall is always top notch - quite how sky never nabbed him is beyond me. thumbs up to setanta for the boxing, a good mix on the undercard rather than showing the whole mcdermott gammer fight they did a bit of that, and a bit of the young cruiser. Also, the fights they have coming up is worth £10 a month all day long. MOsley cotto, diaz diaz & pac barrera being the pick of the US stuff, with Calzaghe Kessler being the pick of the UK fights. Mosley Cotto is worth £15 on Sky, as is Calzaghe kessler I reckon. Dont get me wrong, I think paying ppv on top of £40 subscription is crap, but if those 2 fights were £15 a pop i'd probably buy both on sky.
