I was only a featherweight at the time. Howard was Light Middle. He didnt take any liberties, but he had a great double jab right cross. Paul Hersey from Battersea was also a real handful, as was Vince Burns, whose pro career never lived up to his potenial, mainly due to his slag of a manager.G0mez wrote:Eastman is a spiteful puncher they reckon - he can hurt you big time.KO Artist wrote:Howard Eastman

Best person you've sparred with
pretty disappointed with this billy you swore to me when i hit you with that sweet bodyshot that it was the hardest you have ever been hit... made me feel good for a while anywaybilly bessey wrote:for strentgh kevin bennett he was only a lightweight but he was so strong he smashed me up for 4 rounds and i can honestly say i have never taken such a beating in sparring off anyone even though he was only about 10st at the time i dont mind admitting i was seeing stars a fair few times in that spar.
for speed my brother everyone on the boxing team used to hate sparring him cos u couldnt land a glove on him and when you did manage to land one he would counter you with a 741 punch combination

What amazes me is that you were ever a featherweight!KO Artist wrote:I was only a featherweight at the time. Howard was Light Middle. Had the chance to go anywhere for sparring??
Thats not hard if your willing to travel it is easy to get sparring.
He did most of his sparring with Floyd Havard at Colin Breen's gym who was managing them both at the time

It was after he had retired - he was 45 I think! BUt he was talking about a comeback. He was unfit.KO Artist wrote:How was that E?E wrote:john mugabi
I saw him spar at Carnaby Street in the mid to late 80's and he used to take no prisoners. Big looping right hands and left uppercuts.
To be frank, I'm seriously happy he scrapped the comeback. HE was terrible - ragged and unfit, although he did show glimpses of his power, just in how he threw shots when he was giving a demonstration or on the bag.
He was very gentlemanly and never tried to dig in big shots - he even said he didn't approve of sparring wars, contrary to his previous reputation.

As far as I understand he lives in Australia now, and is there now. Haven't seen him for 18 months now.KO Artist wrote:Cheers for the infoE wrote:It was after he had retired - he was 45 I think! BUt he was talking about a comeback. He was unfit.KO Artist wrote: How was that E?

There is a guy who knows him at the gym; I will ask him. Hopefully he's financially comfortable.

Funny enough, I've been slapped by her in the very same nightclub. She came in once with Adele Stephens and we were saying to them why are you here for student night? Lisa replied because its great and I was like but Visage is a pile os shit to which she told offence and slapped me!Captain Hook wrote:I can't compete with them, but I was once slapped by Lisa Riley in Visage nightclub, Huddersfield.....
What a claim to fame.
He KO'd a bearded Mike Jameson in 2 roundsExpug wrote:James "Quick" Tillis, Gave Tyson a good go.
Alfonso Ratliff Cruiserweight Champ.
Some others who were tough
Lenny Lapaglia
Randy Smith
Johnny Lira
Louie Mateo
Henry Simms
Johnny Heard
William Clayton
A good one Ive witnessed was when Frank Bruno came to Chicago he stopped by the gym I trained in and went a few rounds with Tillis.
Id say Frank got the better of that session. It was 1983 before Frank became big.
Many people dont realize he fought in Chicago.
He was a real nice guy.
He did too. That's some memory I've got there!Goz wrote:I think Mcuigan might have fought that night too?

Dopey you have got to be effing kidding me because Adele Silva was there that night as well!!! 1998!!
Coincidence....
It wasn't related to piss flaps Terry, a mate bet me I wouldn't ask her if she wanted a drink.
I strolled over and asked if she wanted a beverage of choice and she turned her back on me, so I told the fat pudendum she should be grateful for my attention and she slapped me....

Sorry, Adele Stephens - Adele Silva is the one I meant - Kelly from Emerdale. Yeah 1998 it was, on a Tuesday night, which was student night, a £1 a drink!Captain Hook wrote:Dopey you have got to be effing kidding me because Adele Silva was there that night as well!!! 1998!!
