Still, it remains that Howard's best win is over his own trainer - I don't think that makes him out to be what you are suggesting.
A fine physical specimen is Eastman and somewhat of an enigma, but as terry pointed out, he has always flattered to deceive, usually by not delivering that extra bit of work when required.
Last night he got caught out in a British title fight - It surprised me a bit, but no point in making excuses for Howard.

At least us Brummies have the good sense not to make assessments and appraisals of fights we have not seen..rhino222 wrote:good call dr devious, but its hopeless in getting into a debate with these fellas whose location is birming, its those blue tinted spectacles...
I might have viewed the fight through blue tinted spectacles, but at least I saw it before giving my comments on it. 8)

Howard is a fighter who has great talent but just not the skill/nohow to implement it into his bouts...
In his career the best fighters he fought are:
Sam Soliman W12
Robert McCracken TKO10
William Joppy L12
Bernard Hopkins L12
Arthur Abraham L12
Edison Miranda LTKO7
and also the loss to Wayne....
This tell's a story in itself.....Don't get me wrong I have alway's been a fan of Howard's but I have lost interest in his career as the year's have gone on, Much the same as Howard himself appear's to have.

The Joppy fight was there for the taking but Eastman only looked interested when it was too late. Unlucky my arse.dr_devious wrote:Howard Eastman was unlucky to lose the decision against Joppy. He also put up a good effort against Hopkins, but was a class beneath Hopkins - no shame in that as BHop is possibly a top 10 MW of all time.Twinkle Toes wrote:I personally wouldn't class Eastman anywhere near Graham - Graham was downright unlucky to not win a title, where as Howard never was capable enough in the first place.
His best shot was Joppy, and he was lacklustre for most of that fight.
Howard wasnt the best Britain never to win a world title, but was the best of this decade. He was as good as any middle other than Hopkins in the late 90s / early 00s and was easily good enough to win a title belt.
He should call it a day now

i was not at the fight, but i spoke to about 3 people that were, eastman, although looking in good shape was gassed from round 7 onwards, maybe a little earlier, it was all down to a conditioning thing. wayne elcock should not be fit to be a sparring partner for eastman ..TerribleTerry wrote:At least us Brummies have the good sense not to make assessments and appraisals of fights we have not seen..rhino222 wrote:good call dr devious, but its hopeless in getting into a debate with these fellas whose location is birming, its those blue tinted spectacles...

and, nice to see you bring new rules to the forum, from now on no one is allowed to comment on a fight/performance/result unless they have seen the fight...
i guess the forum will slow down a bit !!
Eastman was not in top shape or top condition. That was clear form the moment he entered the ring. He wasn't in bad shape either though. He didn't have the same definition as usual and I suspect he "lost" weight, rather trained properly to reach the weight limit. He obviously under estimated Elcock and paid the price.
This is all part and parcel of boxing. Nothing will change the fact that Wayne is the new champion.
Elcock boxed a very, very disciplined fight and thoroughly deserved his win. I was very surprised at the scores, depsite Howard pressing the fight for long spells, because his condition wasn't what it should have been, his timing was off and Wayne was the opposite....sharp and fit. This wasn't a close fight at all IMO. Even Eastman seemd to accept things and realised he'd been well beaten by a focussed challenger.
The wave to the crowd at the end by Eastman seemed to suggest this could be the last we see of him in a ring.
Congratulations to Elcock
. If there's one thing boxers like doing, it's proving people wrong and Wayne proved a lot a people wrong this time, including me.

The fight was close and the decision could have gone either way, as such he was unlucky.nickd wrote:The Joppy fight was there for the taking but Eastman only looked interested when it was too late. Unlucky my arse.
Also the guy is 36, he isnt exactly in his prime so its no surprise his career is on the downward spiral. Howard should get out of the game now, he was a world class MW and a very talented fighter in his prime
