Also, the fights they have coming up is worth £10 a month all day long. MOsley cotto, diaz diaz & pac barrera being the pick of the US stuff, with Calzaghe Kessler being the pick of the UK fights. Mosley Cotto is worth £15 on Sky, as is Calzaghe kessler I reckon. Dont get me wrong, I think paying ppv on top of £40 subscription is crap, but if those 2 fights were £15 a pop i'd probably buy both on sky.
The only thing I disagree with you on is about Bunce. Who gives a toss what someone looks like - what I want when I turn on my TV is someone who knows his stuff and Bunce is one of the most knowledgable people around about boxing unlike some who do not have a clue.

I do however completely agree with everything else you have stated.

In reply to your previous post - It is time to move on young man - people are completely bored of the vendetta's that seem to be all to familiar around here and other sites - why not post something about boxing and why not join in the threads to make your points about the great sport.

The endless drivel and abuse directed at "Spud" should be a thing of the past and this forum should be busy and popular because of its boxing content.

Nothing to do with the way Bunce looks, just dont like him as an anchor man. Wouldnt want them to get rid, he has to be there with his over enthusiastic rants somewhere, just not as the front man.

Also, props to those who rumbled Albert as spud long ago. Good to have you back, i think.

I didn’t get to see the show last night so perhaps I shouldn’t comment.

But generally speaking Bunce annoys and amuses me in equal measure. I don’t see the guy as any sort of front man for a sport where the participants, at any level of the game, put themselves on the line. There are others that are more appropriate.

I see him as a cheerleader for the sport and a necessary charater that adds colour, providing some nice anecdotes and some exaggerated offbeat analysis. He has infectious enthusiasm that can work either way for an audience. Personally I do not care for it.

I honestly see no problem with Bunce.

Bunce and Woodhall are alright.

The coverage of the show was good. And more importantly the fights entertained the fans.

A good show for Setanta and Fight Academy

I like Buncie and thought he did a great job, as did Rawling, Woodhall and Enzo. I did think Dempsey was going to be Setanta's anchor man though, especially as he was there for Hatton-Castillo.

Bunce always reminds me of Chris Kamara, they way they get carried away when speaking about the sport they love.

However, someone needs to reign him in. How many times did he get all excited and list Richie Woodhall's achievements, poor Richie looked very embarrassed at times.

But my hats off to Setanta, we're getting more boxing and I get it free on Virgin!

I think I'll re-watch the show and list the things that annoyed me about his anchoring role. I remember there was something as soon as the show started, within 20 seconds. I suppose its personal choice, and for me, I prefer him answering with that enthusiasm. He also got Gammers hometown wrong, pressed Enzo twice on another fight with Hobson 7 as previously mentioned was wetting himself over richie woodhalls achievments.

I dunno... who cares really, as long as we get the coverage.

I like Bunce as a guest but don't really think he looks too comfortable as a frontman.

I believe that Paul Demspey has been banned from presenting until he sorts his 'spike with a fringe' out  :P :box:

Just a bit of a tip -

When signing up for Setanta, quote 'Barrs' (as in the soft drink firm) to get the first 3 months at £5 each.

You can cancel before the end of the 3 months to stop there, or continue at 9.99 each month thereafter.

Well worth doing for Calz/Kessler if nothing else.

Overall it was a good show. I know it sounds suicidal but why don't FA and Setanta televise a Sunday avvo show? You could get some gritty fights made and it would be interesting to watch boxing from the sofa on a lazy Sunday. I know it will get mullered by the football but we pay the fookers to ptrovide a mix of sports on any given day.
Rawling did a Freudian slip in there - he called Richie "Duke" at one point, but overall they were all very good. I enjoyed the banter between Hobson and Macca - "not if you hit me in the back of the 'ead again, what's that about?"

I think the main thing is that all the ppl gel - they were at each other's throats during Hatton-Castillo - and it's good to see some domestic stuff. Hopefully next week we don't get an international feed with Wally and those two Hispanic blokes.

I don't think knowledge of a sport is prevalance for being a presenter - no complaints with Paul Dempsey. Phil Jones didn't do a bad job either with his previous stints.

I don't know if its Nerves or something, but Bunce seems to lose alot of his enthusiam when doing the presenting and maybe a good knowledge could be a downfall - cause he could assume that all the viewers know as much as him. Like for when he was explaining Hassing Rasini as a guy "who isn't making his pro debut" - without the on screen record that Sky show (something I think Setanta do need to work on) - then no-one would really know what Rasini had to offer.

With Dempsey at Setanta - I think that is Constructive Criticism and not just having a go. I cannot see why they cannot stick with Dempsey - this different presenter for different shows is making them look like they are not sure themselves.

Great too Woodhall there, and good that they are sticking with Rawling. Cannot fault that. Personally, I would have liked to have seen the Heavyweight eliminator in full - I was kind of expecting to see the three main fights in full... but beggers cannot be chosers and I do suppose they had a time scale... Its not like there was a shit load of ads or anything. Maybe in future they could show the undercard fights in full on a different show (like Sky used to do with Ringside).

yeah, they had 3 hours nearly, which is a big slot so full coverage would have been prefered. but i enjoyed the main 2 fights. bunce will always divide - I used to hate him, now I like the guy - Woodhall's always articulate and Macca has been surprisingly good for such an apparently quiet bloke.

Have to say, I never liked Barry McGuigan, even less so for the Hatton-Castillo where he seemed to be upset about something (& it was the anniversary of his loss to Cruz, I think). But when I saw heard him on US broadcasts for an Andy Lee fight, I though he was better than his colleagues by far.

Actually had a bit of a result with my Setanta, went to cancel it last week and they offered me 3 months for £5.

I suggest you try the same might get a bit of a deal, say you can really afford it anymore and they may do you a deal.

Well as you know I like McGuigan usually, although he is better when away from the SN fights. I thought he was correct to question Bunce on one or two issues.

Incidently, I thought Bunce was WRONG regarding his opinion of Gonzalez vs Woods 1, saying that Woods was poor and the fight was poor. I thought the fight was okay, but Woods was punch perfect. Much better than he was on Sat actually.

Macca has been good on the Welsh ABA shows - got the making I think. Woodhall is excellent, you could tell he was embarresed about Bunces' comments on his clothes.

I thought Woods-Gonzalez 1 was an accomplished piece of boxing but Woods was lacking in spite. Bit less polished this time, but I feel it was worth it if it meant landing harder punches in rds 1, 2, 6, 7 and battering the Mexican in 10 and 11. I see Woods as a good grinder; does a lot of good work late where opponents are quite knackered.

Perhaps Gonzalez made a better case for himself this time by preparing better, grabbing Woods' left arm in close so he couldn't jab, hook or shoulder barge. That really wore down Julio in the 1st bout.

A good answer Stu.

The only thing I can comeback with this Bunce thing is the simple FACT he is one of the most knowledgable people I know about the sport - I see what you have written and okay you have a point. But to use a football example - when Gary Lineker first appeared on presenting ... I thought he was absolutely shit and could not wait to see the back of him - now I think he is excellent - using that example and in addition using the phrase there is fault in all of us - why can't Bunce be given a reasonable chance to improve his presentation skills.

When Rawling went over to TV he was bloody awful in my view despite being the best I have heard on the radio - I sat next to him when he was commentating on Saturday evening and thought him and Woodhall were bloody excellent.

Overall I honestly think Sentanta are getting it right, whilst also saying there is room for a little improvement here and there.

The crucial thing and it is bloody important to say this and for all fans to get it into their heads - Setanta Sport are covering boxing not only the British scene but they are also giving us fights from America which is tremendous - they are mindful of what the fans would like and they are taking steps to get the fights and ensure the promoters they have on their books sign up the right fights with a little bit of flexibility here and there.

I want consistency and as such I think Setanta are definitely up their as the NO1 with their coverage of boxing - certainly better than flaming ITV ever managed with their what can only be described as shite coverage/presentation.

Lets support Sentanta - lets criticise but in a constructive manner - because if they do not cover boxing where the hell is it going to go next??

Yep, thanks to them we have twice as much boxing. I say they're doing very well. The presentation is improving and for me this was the most enjoyable show. Personally, I think Bunce's hard man stares into the camera are funny, he has a sense of humour (particularly on the Hatton-Castillo show) and that after he introduced Enzo as WBO cruiser champ he couldn't leave out Richie, the former WBC super middle holder could he?

I'll agree to disagree on Rawling - I've always thought he was good on the TV - but I do think the co-commentator helps/hinders John. When John is with Duke for example, I'm usually so annoyed at Duke that I tend to bring John into it negatively aswell. John is good with everyone else, always has been IMO.

As for Bunce, I think Autobarn is spot on - He's a bit like Marmite, similarly with Holdsworth. Personally, I'm not a fan (prefer him to Holdsworth by someway mind)... although where I think Bunce EXCELLS in his documentaries and pre recorded segments. He gets them spot on (even if he sometimes sounds like he is from the Ray Winstone fan club). I'd have him doing these in any punditary "dream team".

Yes, I am prepared to give him time - However, my arguement is that Setanta have the Maestro on their books already - and Dempsey not exactly ancient. Yes, I can see what you mean with Lineker and I agree (he was a good pundit before presenting though IMO) - but the BBC lost Des and so had to groom someone. Setanta don't need to groom anyone with Dempsey on the books, and I think Phil Jones is better than Bunce even if Dempsey is unavailable.

Nowt wrong with Jim Rosenthal as a BOXING presenter (we won't mention the Rugby mind!), he might not be as knowledgable as Bunce but his enthusiam was only too obvious in that Contender UK vs US show (watching from Ringside). Alot of ITV's problems were in their production and two words.... Duke McKenzie.

Great to see Setanta involved I agree, I just hope it goes beyond the end of November.

Yeah, I can see that - but give me the polish any time. What I especially didn't like about the comment Bunce made though was it certainly gave a few people who watched the fight with me (but hadn't seen the first fight) that the decision was a little controvesial - and that was the reason why they are rematching. If this was Johnny Nelson vs Guilemero Jones 2 then what Bunce said was spot on. I had to tell my mates "NO, Woods gave him a boxing lesson (well I actually said kicking), practically a shut out".
