Macca-Darnell "Ding-a-Ling" Wilson in Nov?

Post by Autobarn »

Darnell Wilson has become an exciting cruiserweight who's overcome a # of top level losses to become a KO artist. He doesn't have world class skills by any means, but anyone who saw his dramatic KO of Nwodo this year will be interested in him as a challenger to Enzo.

Enzo, the WBO cruiser champ, looks too big and skilled but the threat would be there as long as it lasted. With Enzo's opponent uncertain, Wilson has called him out:

Ding-a-ling man targets Enzo!

Monday, October 1 2007

Cruiserweight knockout artist Darnell "Ding-a-Ling Man" Wilson (22-5, 19 KOs) is publicly inviting WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli to prove to the world he is truly "in it for the glory" by facing him. Maccarinelli (27-1, 20 KOs) is reportedly looking for an opponent for his November 3 title defense at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. Wilson, and his co-promoters, Dino Duva of Duva Boxing and Sal Musumeci of Final Forum, think he's the perfect man for the assignment. "He has a title and I'm going to take it," promised Wilson who adds that it doesn't matter if he has to travel to Wales to realize his dreams. "It's going to be a giant and rowdy crowd, but it boils down to just him and I in the ring. Whether it's there, or in my backyard, or wherever, he's going to sustain the same type of beating, no matter where it is. I'm so hungry for the title I can taste it....Enzo said in an interview that he's in it mostly for the glory, well this is his chance. I'm a highly revered cruiserweight with some big wins. He's talking about fighting some old washed up guys; fight the hungry, strong fighter. That'll be a true fight for the glory

I think a few fights ago, pre-WBO title these are the types of fights Enzo should have been taking. Maybe Sports Network will sell Enzo's bouts now on the back of "well it's better than Bobby Gunn ain't it?"

Just had a skan of his record

http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?hu ... &cat=boxer

Its an okay record but that run of losses makes him look fradgile, however he has never been Knocked Out, Enzo may go for it becuase he wants to be the first or it could worry Mac who doesn't fight in the late rounds too much. He does have a high KO rate something else glass jawed mac will not like.

Ding was talking on ESB about trying to get a title shot.

ESB will suck up to him though and say he will beat Enzo just because his chins better than Macs.

Awesome Nwodo Ko though! :o

I'd say Enzo beats him on points though but Ding hasn't fought anyone who hits like Enzo.

I think Braithwaite taught us that Wilson shouldn't prove too dangerous. There's a noticeable height difference.

Wilson seems too power reliant too.

Heard he has stamina problems as well.

Wasn't Brown and Davis the same when Ding bombed them out?

Well he has been into the 10th (i.e the late rounds) 3 times in his carrer so to say "who doesn't fight in late rounds too much" is a fair assesment (although admitedly gramaticaly terrible)

Glass jawed is a reasonable assesment of someone who got KOed by Lee Swaby (11 KOs 41 fights) and put on his arse by mark hobson (14KOs 33 fights). If he is going to fight somone who has the risk of being him which to give him credit he did vs Braithwait then both based on his past form (ie fighting bobby good and any number of other poor fighters who shouldn't have been in the ring with him) then he would probably take such a risk against someone who brought a bit more glory.

He was only a novice pro when he was bombed by Swaby though.

Hobson's power ain't that bad either, Enzo's defence wasn't as good then so you could go down a few times when your defence Is not so good.

He goes down when hit flush, Iv seen him wobbled a couple of times although I do admit I didn't see the Braithwait fight, however my point that the risk reward ratio is too grate for Enzo/Warren by the looks of things.

I suggest you watch it, Braithwaite landed flush several times and he can whack.

Ding's limited In skill he's not that big of a risk, he has power but Enzo would box rings around him.

Answered a lot of questions about Enzo IMO. He showed he can take a good shot in world class and keep up a decent pace for 12 rounds in good company. I'd give him a decent chance with any cruiser in the world on that form.

I agree, he's one of the lower-end top ten Cruisers right now.

I'd definitely like to see this fight, and at ESB they have it an even money fight in their poll so far! :o

Esb uses the Zakman chin checker logic as usual.

Enzo Calzaghe really changed Macca though, I know this sounds a bit much but he reminded me of a cruiser version of Lennox the way he fought.

Cruisers are big men obviously, almost heavies so if you get banged flush on the chin you can be sparked out, whoever you are - I wouldnt say Enzo has a glass chin, he has taken good shots at times and still stayed upright - He has a massive punch at least equal to David Haye and possibly even better so I find him very exciting to watch and its more than time he had risky fights and proved he is a worthy champion - Haye is certainly having a risky one with Mormek.

I think this is a dangerous fight and one that Enzo doesn't need to take as it is a no money fight.

Ding-aling-man (doesn't ding-a-ling mean prick in US English????) is a perfectly strong opponent.

Wilson is an interesting fighter. He is very crude and easy to hit, but he has a lot of power. However, by far his best quality is not his punch but his beard. He has a head and neck like The Thing, and he will keep walking through punches to trade until he gets the exchange he wants. At least that's what he's been doing lately. He's a bit like a big Gatti, and it's hard to keep him off and resist the temptation to open up on his easy-to-hit head.

Kelvin Davis and Nwodo were both having a lot of success, but got too cavalier and got whacked. Supposedly, Wilson gave up drinking energy drinks, which he said were sapping his adrenals, and he has had more stamina since then. I do recall his fight with George Khalid Jones for, example, where he was unable to press the fight - and it did seem corrected against Nwodo where he kept coming the whole fight.

He makes good fights and he's an interesting character - an IT guy who talks like a guy from a Star Trek convention - so I hope you get a chance to see him over there. Anyone who is going to beat him will have to be disciplined the whole way through and probably win a decision.

Hobson didn't drop him; he dropped Hobson.

Fact is Enzo wants unification matches so taking a fight with Wilson should be no question.

cruiser is definitely a pretty big weight bracket, especially these days.

I think Enzo would dominate behind a jab and draw him onto big counter shots, maybe even drop Wilson once or twice, posdsibly take some hard shots down the stretch and win a shutout or near shutout, ala Braithwaite.

IMO Enzo could become the best fighter in the UK. I'll bet he has his eyes on a heavyweight belt as well, once the Klitschkos are gone (they're just too big). If so, there should be no ? of facing Wilson.

Wilson would make the biggest purse of his career, perhaps! All the Yank cruisers want to come over here. Bell is more upset about missing big $ fights with Macca/Haye than losing his Lineal Title.

Thats the problem, its all about money and only taking risky fights if the payday is good enough - Well finding an opponent for Enzo isnt proving easy so they may have to take the risk and live with it because time is running out.
