According to Britishboxing.net, Michael Brodie is making a comeback - do you think he has anything left in the tank?

NO NO NO...Brodie was shot to shit and became very fragile indeed...he should get his trainers liscence or something..

(Most) people never had a nice word to say about Anthony Farnell when he was a pro, but he got out at the right time and made a good career for himself on the other side of the ropes..

He didnt come back to get his reputation destroyed

That's my recollection too.

I remember him being described as a sensible fella (with his money), using his purses to pay off his mortgage instead of parties, cars and holidays. Not the kind of guy to piss his money away, so if he has fallen on hard times, it's a sad story.

Bad move but his choice I suppose. If he insists on coming back then a scrap with Michael Hunter might be fun if he can still do 9 stone.

If he's going to come back at super feather then himself and Gomez would be fun although Gomez is likely to be retired again by Johannson - although I hope he proves me wrong.

Farnell retired for medical reasons.

As for what people thought of him, I actually never heard a bad word said about him as a person, although as a boxer he could sometimes be unsportsmanlike. His fans were some of the worst, too, and I guess he got tarnished by association.

Hunter is boxing on the 12th on same bill (chief support) to Argie Ward (C'wealth super bantam defence). 8 or 10 rounds international, now up at Feather.

What did he used to do? I saw he liked to get in people's faces but did he do anything else?

he looked gone in his last 2 fights.

admittedly that was against 2 world class fighters.

domestically he could still do something perhaps.

I know that, I just meant that we never saw a shot Arnie coming back damaging his legacy, maybe for medical reasons but he retired well...

As for his rep around the time, we were inundated with stories(if not untrue, more than likely exaggerated) that he was a bully and a street thug in his early days...plus that he was a racist after calling Takaloo 'Vindaloo'(a rather amusing comment)

The point I was making was about retiring with dignity...

Good article on BBN, Terry. I was always a Brodie fan and I've just recently re-watched his fights against Chi, Maurin and Cabrera as I've been transfering my videos to DVD.

They were hard, hard fights for Mike. Even when winning by shutout against Cabrera, he didn't come away unscathed. He briefly looked a cut above Harrison skill-wise until a body shot took it all away from him. I just hope the two and a half years away have recharged the batteries and he doesn't get seriously hurt in this comeback.

Maybe he retired with dignity, but it wasn't his choice, was it.

I don't think the "Vindaloo" comment was racist; he was just making fun of the guy's name, not his race (wrong race anyway!).

He wasn't exactly the strictest adherent to the rule book, and he was a sore loser. Again, I've heard many times that he's actually a very nice guy, just his whole intimidation/fouling/sore loser combination, coupled with fans who acted at times disgustingly (THEY made racist comments to non-white opponents, spat on Elcock and Maloney after Arnie was beaten fair and square, etc) did not make a fan of me.

I never retired for medical reasons lads, The optitions said if I was you I wouldnt chance getting hit anymore cause my left eye sight was gettin worse so I changed to the other side of the ropes what I have allways planned to do anyway, But came sooner than expected. But its all good. XX

I remember meeting Arnie at a public workout in the run up to Groenwold 2. Me and my mate were saying it would be funny to make some wisecrack about him 'keeping them up' this time round..we both decided against it...low and behold when we go to speak to Arnie he said ' I will be Ok this time as long as I keep them up'

Broadie seemed to have lost all his fighting spirit after the first Chi fight and after thats gone I don't think its coming back. It was a great fight with CHi and I was willing for him each time. Chi and Harrison were huge featherweights, which was unfortunate but on the other hand neither were the best feathers in the business.

Hopefully hes not just coming back for money because I see him taking a pounding if thats the case. He maybe used as 'name' cannonfodder for the likes of Alex Arthur and Kevin Mitchell, which I'm not interested in seeing at all but boxing been the synical business it is could make it happen

Why not Broadie-McColough - 2 similar sized similar level fighters both past their primes. For old times sake

Brodie certainly seemed to be on the wane and most though even the Harrison fight was a fight too far.

I guess there's no harm in coming back in a few routine fights and seeing whats left if he needs the money.
