Ray Mercer Vs Riddick Bowe 1994

Post by Robinson »

Ok....

Let's just say that Mercer gets a 'gift' decison over Fergusson in there
first bout and he earns the shot at Bowe's title. How do you guys see the fight, and who do you think would win ?

Thanks again

bowe wins in a huggin, clinchin borefest.more size to use as a tool to lean on mercer and disable any strategy he can conjure up.I think they'd each average around 25-35 punches per round.bowe would land around 40% and mercer, around 20%.They'rd be alotta clinchin and boredrom booin from the crowd.bowe would win a ud.10-1-1 for bowe.

I like Bowe's reach & that great jab he had to get him home. Probably a UD. Mercer wouldn't give him an easy night though, ala Lewis in 96. I'll say it's a little closer than 10-1-1, maybe 8-4?

I agree. Mercer would have his moments but in the end be outboxed.

This probably would have been an exciting fight. The Mercer that gave Holyfield a lot of trouble and should have gotten the decision against Lewis would have given Bowe a tough fight.
Of course Mercer was inconsistent and may have turned in a lackluster effort. However, usually he fought close to the level of his competition. I would say Bowe wins something like 8 rounds to 4.

It's too bad that Mercer lost to Ferguson. Had he won, he would have gotten the title shot against Bowe.

I think Mercer was one of those guys in history who would always give the champion a tough fight, but who just didn't have it in themselves to be a champion. I am a Mercer fan, but I have no delusions that he would beat Bowe at this time.
