Michael Brodie making a comeback?
Arnie Farnell for me is one of the very best people I have met on the circuit. Brilliant bloke and bloody funny - mind you I shit myself when I did not know him and he wanted to sort me out for what I wrote on one of the websites about him!!!steve689 wrote:I loved the SKY clip after Farnell had won the WBU, he was so made up they showed him having a shower with his belt on. Sorry if I've got it wrong, cos I haven't got a crystal-clear memory about it, but I do seem to remember you seemed to be pretty sore about the Takaloo and Groenewald defeats. Can't remember exactly what it was. Again, apologies if that isn't the case.Arnie wrote:Oliver mate, A sore loser? How you make that out?
Evidently you accept the "dirty" tag (even made a joke about it) and I suppose at times it can be part and parcel of the game. Fair enough. I suppose my main bugbear was your fans. If you are this lovely guy everyone talks about, how on earth did you attract such scum to your fights?? Sorry if that offends you, but I really can't tolerate "fans" who shout racist abuse and spit on people.

I can understand what you mean mate its out of order who ever spat on someone else if thats the case, But I was never a sore loser against Tak he just got me good and proper. Yes I was upset about the Ruben fight straight after because I thought I done enough, BUT when I looked back at the fight on tape I couldnt argue because I was stupid in takin 1 to land 1.
Belive me this is what I am good at now and I will be making some top quality fighters for you all to be proud of.

Brodie's comeback could be interesting - Problem for Michael was he was just a little small for the elite big Featherweights. There is a crop of probably a bit too good world champions out there at the moment (John, Luevano, Linares etc) - but a crop of domestic fighters who will provide competitive scraps, good paydays and Brodie still might be able to match them.
Ironically, if the small Featherweight Brodie is desperate for some overdue World honours then maybe its a move to the 9st 4 and chase the highly beatable Mozonke Fana.

Could be painful for Brodie but if needs must, then it is what he knows best.
I'd worry more about his resilience than anything else.
Brodie wilted against Chi quite alarmingly, although to be fair he was over in the first, had a badly busted nose and had a point deduction - There wasnt much else to go wrong really.
He started brightly against Harrison but again his resilience looked suspect, and he was out of there - I wonder how much the damaged rib affect him in this fight?

Intresting, cannot say I remember this rumour - but of course it was the body shot (and that one particular punch) that did in Brodie. Up untill that point I disagree with what Captain Hook is claiming - although it is possible/probable that Harrison would have done him in the end.BBN wrote:Wasn't he allegedly injured before the Harrison fight? Hehehe, so far I have desisted, but I am waning fast. They are so far up themselves, I feel almost duty bound to ridicule them.harrygreb wrote:bloody hell, andy. great to see ya back on 'ere. i'm very well myself ta for

A pleasure to be in touch again.

As for what people thought of him, I actually never heard a bad word said about him as a person, although as a boxer he could sometimes be unsportsmanlike. His fans were some of the worst, too, and I guess he got tarnished by association.
I never retired for medical reasons lads, The optitions said if I was you I wouldnt chance getting hit anymore cause my left eye sight was gettin worse so I changed to the other side of the ropes what I have allways planned to do anyway, But came sooner than expected. But its all good. XX[/quote]
I used to be in regular contact with Howard Rainey, and his wife. Both spoke extrememly highly of Farnell, and said nothing was too much trouble for him when help was needed.

That Harrison was walking through him - after that body punch then yes - before then Harrison was obviously stronger but Brodie was doing very well. If Brodie had a weakness to the body, then maybe that why he folded like he did.Captain Hook wrote:Disagree with what? That he was too big for him or beat him up?

Yes, was he carrying some sort of injury, because prior to that body shot, I actually thought he was showing Scott up a bit, he was really digging him big time to the body and he looked to be uncomfortable. Then there was that one body shot and it was over.Terry D wrote:Scott was always the bigger man but, put it this way, Brodie was at a disadvantage going into that fight. I think he will have something to offer.
Incidently I remember taking part in a contest as a kid called Kid Gloves. No contact, just showing off technique and basic shots and footwork.
Who was one of the lads on the poster showing how to throw a jab? A young Brodie, complete with a shock of hair.
Yes, he hurt Harrison there also - Always said it was a weak area for Harrison (no jokes about his new look in that region). However, while Scott often winced and looked doubled over in some fights - he always sucked it up and never went down. Steve Robinson had him in some trouble there also.Terry D wrote:Scott was always the bigger man but, put it this way, Brodie was at a disadvantage going into that fight. It was building up nicely. Scott made a great start, then Brodie looked like he was on verge of taking then - bang... effectively all over.

If you get the video/DVD out – look at the last 20 secs of round 3, immediately prior to the bell Harrison gets in a body punch.
The bell goes and Brodie winces in pain then goes off camera as he goes back to his corner. The commentators missed it (what’s new eh?), but you get a view of Harrison’s corner turning to look at what’s happened.
Mikie was obviously in trouble with that shot and that was the beginning of the end.
