Fighters you'd like to see feature on BN's 'Where are they?'

I got into boxing in the 80s (following it) and have so many Kos, Rings and Boxing Newses (SP?) that make me desperately nostalgic when I read them.

I love the recent 'Where are there now' in Boxing NEws about fighters retired inc Sumbu Kalambay, Duane Bobick etc...

Now we know what Michael Nunn (25 years in the pen), Iran Barkley (still trying to fight again) , Tommy Hearns (talking to lamposts) etc are doing - but who would you like featured?

Fighters who have disappearde would be most interesting...

In no order and off the top of my head -

- Juan Roldan (the only man to floor hagler, albeit disputed.)
- Darrin Van Horn (groomed for stardom but never happened)
- Murray SUtherland (wasn't he meant to be scottish???)
- GErrie Coetzee (fought Brakley but also had a farm accident)
- Don Curry (is he financially secure??)
- Marlon Starling (god knows)
- Tomas Molinares (ko'd Starling after the bell then I think got AIDS)
- Carl 'The truth' Wiliams (best nickname in boxing)

I could go on forever - would be interested in any updates on 80s, 90s fighters and your thoughts....

for Truth Williams check out Calder-Smith's book on what happened to the Tyson victims. Good read, and Williams was one if the few that actually found away to adapt to the world out there.

Read a story bout Don Curry, where Honeygun strolled in the Kronk, years after the fight.
Curry was hitting the bag, but a real shell of his former self.
Lloyd went over to say hey, they had not seen each other since the fight.
Don didn't even recognise him, when the Londoner introduced himself, the Cobra just said "damn man, u ruined my career" and stormed out!

Good call by Autobarn, Calder-Smith's Tyson book is excellent and if my memory serves me correctly Williams is working on the twin towers site (or was when it was written) as some sort of security guy or cleaning up the site or something.

Think Earnie lives with his missus in the Wirral. Recently had an exhibition bout with someone for charity.

He's not actually a bouncer, he's more of a greeter. Who's gong to start a ruck with big Earnie on the door!

While still active, I think Irwin was a joiner and Moon a Liverpool cab driver, so I assume they're still doing that. Some years ago, there was a short feature on Sky on Barry Jones after he'd had to retire and it showed him working in a bar, even though I think he was an electrician by trade. Don't know about Armstrong or Richardson though.

I have read in Boxing News a couple of years back now that Jones and Irwin were contemplating returns - but I do believe both have thought better of it. Jones I believe was given a licence and CHOSE to retire after the Freitas fight (although he always said he would comeback originally... so perhaps there were complication that were not made public at the time).

Why they contimplated returns would be the main reason why I am interested in finding out about them.

I remember McCreesh getting knocked about by Adrian Stone on an undercard one night. He was good value though.

I was going to track down Paul 'Livewire' Lloyd who live in Ellsmere Port but I heard he was on the Smack...though this may not be true I certainly backed off contacting him :(

oddly enough, the stone v McCreesh fight , was on the same bill as Paul Lloyd v Wilders and also Scott harrison v Johnson. looks as if all 3 of them have ended up with problems after boxing.

I found an old 'Where are they know' mini-book from boxing News circa 1990????? It was a really interesting read.

Wonder what the formerly feted Collins brothers are doing...
