Seeing Ali against Holmes was a terrible thing for me.... I was only about 11 and getting into boxing... Ali was my hero (still is!) ...I had vague memories of him beating Frazier and Spinks and we (me and my family) all thought that this fight (against Holmes) would be another great Ali night... I can still remember my Dad saying ' he looks real fit' when Ali got into the ring ....then ofcourse we all know what happened in the fight... real sad.
On the other hand I'd say that the recent documentry showing Johnney Owens Father going to Mexico to meet up with Lupe Pintor was one of the most heartwarming things I ve ever seen connected with boxing... to see two men find the compassion, love and strength to make something positive from such a tragedy was really up lifting and reaffirmed my faith in the human nature.
