I thought Lawton would give Khan a very hard fight

But Lawton`s many fans who followed him down must be very very disapointed with him...he looked beat as soon as the bell went...he didn`t try anything except to survive and apart from a jab the odd punch he did throw was a million miles away

I thought this one would answer alot of questions about Khan...sadly, through no fault of khans, it showed us nothing....Lawton froze like many of Khans early opponents

Khan 5/10...cos what did he have to beat
Lawton 0/10...waste of time him even turning up to do nothing

I thought the behaviour of Lawtons fans was disgusting..The racisim shown towards the Asian community was disgusting..No fault of Lawtons but they should be ashamed of themselves for the things many of them were shouting!!

Amir was brilliant BUT Lawton was an easy pushover for him!! The poor lad just froze!!

Yet again Khan looked a million dollars fighting a human punchbag. Nice to see he had his hands up a bit more but this was no sort of test Lawton just tried to survive from the opening bell. Maybe he froze on the big occasion?

Will be very interesting if Earl is next, he has big fight experience and will come to win.

Earl wont just be another opponent for Khan should he be the next to fight him - Some think he is in decline but I dont think that is so - He has loads of experiance and like Thaxton a huge heart - He can also produce a KO punch.

Yes quite right there it's deriving pleasure from others ill fortune, though not necessarily malicious.

Lawton didn't earn his money last night... I bet his fans, amongst many others were dissapointed with his effort... I'm normally very respectful in my posts but I was amazed at what I saw (or more aptly, what I didn't).

He looked frightened and barely threw a punch and offered nothing to the fight... He was always going to get KO'd the moment he steped in the ring - he was waiting for it!

Harsh but fair I think..!

Khan did what he had to do against him - Amir wasn't to blame for Lawton's statue display...

I guess we will have to wait again for the next real test for Khan.

Khan's speed just competed negated Lawton's offensive tools - he had him second guessing himself as early as the first and therefore he was hesitatig before punching, quickly becoming unable to pull the trigger.

I have never seen Lawton seem so impotent; you must credit Khan for closing him down like that.

As for the racist chanting, I couldn't hear it on the TV but when you draw your support from a very racist and spiteful football firm like Stoke's its only to be expected (as disgusting as it is).

Then again, they always get filled in by the multicultural, multi-race Blues Zulu mob so I guess some of their bitterness stems from that! :TU:

Exactly. That's what I was trying to say with my earlier post, but you expressed it better. Last night was a bit of a pointless exercise for all concerned.

Ahem. Today I love cliches...does anyone else think that Warren has bought a pig in a poke? To the public, Khan is the emperor's new clothes in my opinion.

I just think Khan's an accident waiting to happen - AUdley the second. Maybe it shows how sanitised the olymic game has become, compared to pro boxing.

The first round Lawton did ok, but he became negative because Khan punished him whenever he let his hands go. That's boxing, he was outgunned in every department by a better fighter.

Yes a better fighter (On the night) but not a great fighter, not even a very good fighter............at times  and definitely not a world class fighter judging by his performances so far.
Last nights fight........Scratch that.....Work out :box: was nothing more than a Band Aid!
Lets all keep it in perspective :TU:

I thought he was much improved compared to the fight against Limond. And lets not forget he won in good fashion, Lawton landed few significant punches.

Where did I say he was a great fighter?

He's a 14 fight novice, with a very short amateur career, who has learned some lessons after getting decked by Limond.

Serious question marks remain over what happens next time he gets tagged, especially by a good puncher, but it was a good performance, and there was a tangible improvement.

Credit where credit is due is all I am saying. I was impressed with Khan, but recognise that there are LOADS of better fighters than Lawton out there.

Sorry my apologies :TU: that little rant is aimed at all the people out there who are being sucked in by the out of control hype machine while other better fighters are ignored.

i thought the topic was about khan and lawton??? scott admitted he underestimated him and realised how good he is. Amir won the fight in great fashion and showed us what he can do on a good night everyone should be behind him instead of sayin his opponents are a low standard or he isnt strong the lad is doing great for the sport and hopefully another future world champ

I know what it means Harry, I used it in a Moore piece shortly before the Lujan fight.

I got the translation from a German speaking etymologist as dictionaries can be hit and miss with terms like this. As a frame of mind it is negative because your sole enjoyment, usually a positive state, comes from a negative series of actions and the misery they cause in a person. It is negative, why should their misfortune be enjoyment for you?

You don't get the enjoyment from the misfortunes themselves but the knock on effect on the person they happen too. Usually because in some sense it is felt they 'deserve' it.

Perfectly applicable to Big Aud in my view, Amir also if it goes tits-up for him :TU:

ooooohhhh! get him!

I would be interested for people on here to name a more promising 14-0 lightweight right now.

I've not bothered to look into this, just want to hear how many of them have better records and / or shown more talent.

terry - when i wrote my crit of your useage of schadenfreude i was well aware that you knew the correct usage. i remembered in the back of my mind a post where you said you had a decent linguistic schooling.
i have enjoyed your defence of the usage and i actually agree with your own personal definition. words can have meanings for us beyond their common usage and as long as anyone can give a persuasive reason for their personal usage then i am not one to argue (although i probably will).
top man - at no point did i think you were a tosser :TU:
