Wayne Alexander spoiler (I guess)

Post by Grey »

Oh man ... Alexander just got TRASHED by 10-19-1 Delroy Mellis. Mellis hammered him with a great left hook in the final round (8th) and the fight was stopped. Alexander looked terrible throughout, and Mellis hurt him several times. Looks like his quest for another title shot is over.

Bloody hell I didn't even know he was fighting. Bang goes his title shot.
I just saw the ko punch, looks a long way back for poor old Wayne now.

Terrible loss for Alexander, who was the WBO number one light-middleweight and was thus guaranteed a shot at Daniel Santos. Not any more.

Thats my vote for upset of the year..... I guess McGuigan was correct about Wayne's punch resistance.

Speaking of big punching but chinny light middles, does anybody know what was happening with Jason Matthews' comeback plans. It was on secondsout about 8 months ago.

They just showed the last few rounds of the Mellis-Alexander shocker on Sky. Wayne took far too many head shots in the closing rounds, and it came as no surprise when Mellis nailed him with that left hook in the last. Wayne beat the count, but it was wisely called off by the referee.
