Good call there, it bemuses me also. Not sure if the judges should go the whole hog and have monitors (with no sound) to get some of the pictures that they are missing (remember Eugine Williams) or what. It bemuses me too, but not sure how they can alter it, logicistally speaking.Albert wrote:No I would not have thought it was a "home" decision if Bell had won - I have already stated I thought the fight was a very close one to call - but at the sametime I thought the right person got the decision.stujones wrote:What dig? The Meager/Hunt decision was a totally disgraceful in my opinion - perhaps one of the very worst I have seen.
To your final point - I fully acknowledge the fight was very close - but I felt the deserving person had his arm raised in victory. In indeed Bell had his arm raised I would have been a tadge annoyed but hindsight being a wonderful thing I simply would have had to ackowledge the fight was very close indeed.
I scored the fight by 2 rounds to Femi - the Ref had it by 1.
Why would you need "hindsight" to know the fight was close? Not a dig just a question.
With regards to the hinsight question - sometimes it is always best watching a fight a 2nd time with the volume off - then you are making your own decision!!!
One of the worst things I have seen at boxing and I simply cannot get my head around is - one of the judges sits right smack in the middle of TV and radio!!!
Femi Fehintola
One of the worst examples of the judges being too close to TV and the press was at that Michael Hunter v Esham Pickering fight - whilst we are discussing who has got who winning the fight - the judge can't remember who is sat there listening.stujones wrote:Good call there, it bemuses me also. Another example is on the last fight I was at was Clinton Woods v Julio Gonzalez - there we have a good close fight - but Richie was scoring the fight - fairly accurately - I was sat on the stairs just the other side of him and John Rawling just a little bit on the other side was the judge as Richie and John are discussing the merits of who was winning - is that healthy.
Again the right man won that fight - but is right where the judge sits - wait for it - the only other place is sat smack in the middle of the VIP row - there again TV are getting in the way of that nowadays as they have a camerman for the corner there too.
this thread has developed nicely but has been sidetracked a bit, but very interesting. boxing is surely one of the only sports where no one seems to know who is missing till the end, but equally you can be 10 goals down into the last minute and still win, its fantastic.
surely there is a case for the judges to be away from any potential interference.

OK pillow fights with Spuddy over - back to boxing.
Many posters have had their say about the result, but how many of you were at the fight ?
If you weren't, what gives you the right to query a result when you haven't seen the whole fight ?
The most sensible post here was Arnie's - and he had the best view.
Close fight - but no problems with the outcome - two warriors.
Good enough for me.
Oh and by the way - yes I was there.

Colin Dunne vs Jacobs? - fair cop that was terrible.Albert wrote:The very worst has to be at the Gorsebrook Leisure Centre - come on remind me who he was the little scouser "Colin ???" against the South African.stujones wrote:Absofukingwelllutely.rhino222 wrote: and that stu is the beauty of boxing...
Its the beauty and the beast.
John Simpson vs Dazzo Williams, Earl vs Vanzie II were certainly far worst calls IMO. Simpson vs Williams especially, in know of a few guys who at least "made a case" for Hunt, some even thought the decision was just - yes, more thought Meager won no doubt. However, I don't know anyone who could even make a case for Williams - it was a boxing lesson.
I do think Colin Lynes was lucky vs Sarmiento and the yank he fought on the bill televised by Bravo. Although not to the degree of Simpson vs Williams or Dunne vs Jacobs.
Yes, two rounds a missing - but if anybody had Bell up by 2 rounds or 3 could query it. Most are just saying its close though.twenty six wrote:OK pillow fights with Spuddy over - back to boxing.

David Barnes V Jimmy Vincent was iffy too if i remember. While on the subject of scoring who was the Danish ref caught on a mobile phone while supposedly scoring Rudy Markussen V Sergei Tatevosyan?? I think it was Soren Saugmann or something, it was on the Beyer-Kessler undercard! Must have been an important call

With your references to Paul King - people in the know will tell you we got on just fine in Vegas - whoops another name drop silly me and it was free!!! - whoops more bragging!!! - but we did get a bit stressed looking after all those premiership footballers - whoops more name dropping!!!

Hell yeah, okay that and Dunne vs Jacobs on a par with the worst decision in a British ring in recent times. VIncent had Barnes on the run, and I thought had Hughes/Warren pulled him out then it would have been the wise decision - then all of a sudden, he's champ.steve689 wrote:David Barnes V Jimmy Vincent was iffy too if i remember. I would call Simpson vs Williams, Dunne vs Jacobs and Barnes vs Vincent (especially the latter too) bodering libelous.... the rest mentioned in the Iffy bracket.
Spot on 26. I was there also and thought Bell by a round, but five or six rounds could have gone either way. The result was not controversial whatever way it went. There were people ringside suggesting a draw going into the tenthstujones wrote:Yes, two rounds a missing - but if anybody had Bell up by 2 rounds or 3 could query it. Not digging Albert out here, but I'm sure at the start of the thread it was great TV moment when Femi's hand was raised and later on says he had Femi by two rounds. I'm told only 4 or 5 rounds were shown on telly.

No, not offensive in any way (though we all know you are more than capable of being so, should you be in that frame of mind).Albert wrote:Oliver - what I wrote with reference to Arnie was not offensive in anyway whatsoever - if you are that bitten with jealousy that you feel the urge to consistently have a pop then I suggest it is not only me who needs help!!!
It's just childish, and I don't mind telling you so.

I've got an egg-time on my desk with exactly the right amount of SPud dust. When it's empty I guarantee Spud will have left in a huff. His likeness to an egg only improving the theme.
Dunne v Martin Jacobs was an absolute stinker.
Vanzie v Earl I and II were shockers.
I thought Meager v Hunt was close.
Nelson v Jones was terrible.
Wharton v Slugger O'Toole/Fidel Castro Smith was cruel.
But the wee Irish fella Kelly? versus Melandrahtu (sp) was the one of the worst I've seen.
