Setanta On Freeview

Post by Poncey »

Setanta on my freeview TV guide isn't showing the Barerra fight Sunday morning at 3am (showing "close" instead). Does anyone know if this is a mistake or it isn't shown on freeview?

I bloody-well better have Barrera-Pacquaio. I'm a subscriber to Setanta on freeview, so I'm expecting to be able to watch the fight. If I do not, I'll be on the phone to Setanta pronto!

For Hatton-Castillo, the fight was actually shown on a top-up channel. It was not shown on channel 34 (Setanta) channel. I do not know if this will be the case for tomorrow's bout?

I hope all those who have subscribed/paid Setanta to have the fight, has no problems in viewing the bout.

Afraid to say fellas that Setanta are definitely not showing this fight live on Freeview.

I phoned them a number of times trying to get an explanation as to why they aren't showing it live and after a number of attempts and vague excuses I spoke with someone who appeared to know what he was talking about.

Apparently it's a broadcasting issue. Setanta are only allowed to broadcast between 12.00pm to 3.00am daily on Freeview, because the signal is piggybacked on terrestrial tv (Channel 5 I think). Obviously not a problem for them when using Sky. I pointed out that the Hatton-Castillo fight was shown at 3.00am, and they said that they arranged with Freeview to use one of their topup channels (38) as a one off and no such arrangement has been made for this fight or future fights.

I am so angry & frsutrated with Setanta. I was unable to watch Barrera-Pacquaio. What reason? I phoned Setanta on freeview, & they said the reason freeview subscribers were unable to view the fight, was because the fight was being shown out of broadcasting hours.

Broadcasting hours are 12noon-3am. I challenged this by saying the Hatton-Castillo fight was not shown until around 4am. They said they were able to show this as they used another channel & not channel 34.

Utterly ridiculous & a bit confusing, I might add! I asked customer services if the Calzaghe-Kessler, Cotto-Mosley will actually be shown. They told me Calzaghe-Kessler will definately be shown, but couldn't comment on Cotto-Mosley.

I am gutted. The sole reason for my subscription to setanta is to watch the boxing. I don't care about the football or any other event.

It's not much but the fight is replayed several times during the week. Set my box to record for the first showing on Tuesday at 18:00. :TU:

From the sounds of things, the SKY and Virgin customers didn't get much of the undercard action either.

Im thinkin bout gettin the freeview with setanta slot purely for the fights, but having previously bought setanta broadband coverage for hatton-castillo and so I thought cotto-judah I wasnt impressed. there was no mention of cotto-judah not being screened on it,it wasnt,,,absolutely gutted.I complained, they just apologised. Am I right in saying this sort of crap is going on if I get freeview setanta (one) Im guessin they show some fights on setanta 2 instead? Any help would be soooooooooo much more helpful than setantas play dumb/making things clear approach. Cheers, when did being a boxing fan become so much like hard work? Im starting to seriously believe the best all in all way to keep up with boxing is becoming on a crappy screen on youtube

ps does anyone know if you must be receiving channel 5 to get setanta through freeview (as was the case with top up tv?,,,if so Im up shit creek yet again,,somebody shoot me),,,,,thanks guys

just read some of the very similar stories above (rocky inparticular), so they invest in boxing big time, knowing that many fights are 3+ am starts like vegas ones are,,they blatantly get fight fans interested in £10 a month subs. ,,but if your going through freeview you cant have half the fights? :o ,,,,how are they getting away with this? They're ignoring all the big fights coming up via their setanta thru broadband service to (tho try finding it out on their site- only thru email would they let that out)

My freeview box had to be set to channel 5 or 34 to egt the signal, and it uses the channel 5 frequency in the first place, so I'd say that if you can't get channel 5 it's not worth taking the risk. I wouldn't be as pissed off if I could get SKY (can't due to trees) and Virgin (can't as building is off the road).

The 3:00am close is really laughable.
