Samuel Peter V Jameel McCline
Samuel Peter V Jameel McCline
Sorry if there another thread covering this but i read somewhere McCline had the big man down 3 times? McCline is a big fella himself and a solid hitter but Wlad never hurt him until the 12th. Is Peter's chin suspect? The next Heavyweight saviour has more serious flaws in his armoury. This reinforces my view that Maskaev-Peter is far from cut and dried as people think, in fact Maskaev hits hard enough to make it more than interesting.
Alot of the current sceners had McCline winning, but he was in piss poor fighting shape apparently. He had Peter all at sea on a number of occasion but was basically gassed after 4 rounds. Disgusting shape really.
I think more people will be cautious as to picking a winner between Peter and Maskaev now. As you said Steve, Maskaev can hit himself and is a decent 12 round fighter. McCline probably has better punch resistance though.
Always thought Peter was shit... just shows how shot Toney is.

I was worried Peter may have a suspect chin but luckily he clears up that myth with this explanation to Boxing Tribune:
When you were down did you think you were done? "No, no. I am the champion and I needed to defend my belt. When I went down I knew I had to stand up.
"I broke my left hand during training camp and both of my hands were hurting me tonight.
So it was nothing to do with the three punches landed but hurting hands that caused the sudden chin weakness
Boxer's will be Boxer's

Apparently he burst his eardrum in sparring as well:

Obviously he was in great shape for the fight then. Or perhaps he's just talking bollocks.
