As far as chat shows go, Ricky will be the Kenneth Williams of the boxing world. Will look forward to that.

Should be a good day Saturday. I have to work so will miss the first half of the football but then there's the rugby later on and then Hatton on Parky.

Parkinson is shot to bits in my opinion but Jonathan Ross still couldn't lace his shoes...god, he's awful. Unctuous and fawning.

Yes, Parky is a bit like the Meldrick Taylor of interviewers. He's trading off of his formidable reputation and journalistic training. His eyes have a glazed looked these days, and everything is off autocue, sad really, because at his best he was brilliant.

Interviewing has changed now. It's no longer about the indepth interview, partly I think because people know so much about the celebrities due to the proliferation of cheap and tatty gossip mags, there's no mystique or allure around big stars now, and interviews are just part of publicity tours?

Remember when Parky started out, there was a ban on plugging what you were doing at the time! Can you imagine that!

Johnathan Ross has his moments, he is a bit fawning (as is Parky these days), but is very good sometimes at breaking the ice with guests by being so incredibly rude and dirty that they seem to forget its an interview, and can be very funny. He is also good when interviewing film directors due to his genuine love for, and knowledge of film.

Parky at his best wasn't afraid of upsetting his guests by asking them difficult questions, most memorably perhaps Ali, who seemed on the verge of giving him a dry slap.

As for Jonathan Ross, that isn't a chat show, half the time Ross doesn't even need guests, just a mirror and some lube. He's pathetic.

And we pay him £18,000,000 a year. Yep. That's right, you and me.

It's times like this I wish ALL television was PPV.

yes its sad. most tv interviews are now subject to parameters laid down by the interviewee not the interviewer. i dont think that the interviews are poor just because we know too much already about the subject, as a good interviewer probes beyond all that and reveals previously hidden facets of interest.
i remember the FACE TO FACE progs with roy plumley entering this territory.
