I always thought Kostya was a very good boxer who discovered along the way that he had remarkable power. He parlayed all that talent and skill very well along the way.G0mez wrote:I put that clip up.
Tszyu was the daddy in his prime and anyone who thinks taller men like Oscar would rumble him at welter, i'd suggest they take a peep at that.

Oscar would pick up right where Cool vince left off..
Where was Shitzsyu when Forrest was Champ at 147??
He couldn't even scrape together the courage to fight Spinks.

Well, Cool Vince could not have performed that miracle twice and everyone but SandySadler knows it. Best to judge fighters by their entire portfolio vs their weakest moment. In boxing one small slip up and your entire rep changes. But Oscar had his weak moments as well....both were great. Oscar being bigger would have an edge. Both were great champions.

Vince took every punch in zoo's arsenal and still KO'd that overrated internet legend..
Oscar had his weak moments for sure..but he took WAY more chances than Zoo..Zoo never dared move up..even to fight the dreaded Corey Spinks.
Lets face it
Zoo was not the most competitive person in boxing..The guy had baby balls..
He even turned down Zab's offer for a crack at ALL THREE of his Welterweight belts..
He chose Hatton over Mayweather for cryin' out loud!!
Zoo never even tried to enter the Oscar sweepstakes..not only that..He was quiet as a mouse during Shane's reign at 147..
He was quiet as ghost jacking off in a sound-proof room when Vernon Forrest was Welter Champ
WHY DIDN'T THE GREAT KING KOSTYA BRING ALL THAT SKILL AND VAUNTED PUNCHING POWER 7LBS NORTH???
The guy NEVER DARED TO BE GREAT
Yeah, maybe Judah might have given us the Foxtrot this time. Oscar and Kostya are both legends. The fight should have happened and it would have been close. Passionate....yet misguided and less than fully informed sentiment. However we all know that "Allah loves wonderous variety"*....in all catagories including opinions.
*Quote from the movie "Robin Hood".
I would just about agree, though when he found he had power he seemed to relax a little and depend on it perhaps too much on at least one occasion. But honestly who wouldn't? I think he really discovered his power along the way and he made a slight conversion. If he would have maintained his boxing first approach would it have made his career better? Not likely. And it certainly would have been a lot more boring run for him, at least from this fan's point of view.thismodernlove wrote:kostya tszyu boxing is like garry kasparov playing chess

i suppose being the first fighter to unify the 3 belts in the division is being great people get so caught up in this moving up weights. why did shanr skip 140 and go straight to 147? why should kostya of moved up weights... hagler, monzon, pep, hamed, buchanon and countless others never moved up weight but are still considered great kostya was a world champion as an amatuer and pro at the same weight how many fighters can say that... i guess that because hes not american YOU dont rate him
and yes u are a BRAINLESS FOOL

He didnt train properly as he was being sued by his promoter and got beaten by a guy he obvoiusly underestimated. Johhnny Lewis his trainer wanted him to pull out of the fight before it even happened as he thought there training had been compomised. Tszyu was in court until a few weeks before the fight and trained at night instead of his usual 2 training sessions a day.

Zoo was in shape and PREPARED...he still got KTFO..
At least he wasn't living in his car and on crack like Vince Phillips..
If anybody wasn't prepared it was Vince..
So what if he had problems..Castillo has many problems going into the Hatton fight..Jeff Lacey had problems going into the Slappy Joe fight..
If Zoo had all those problems..why didn't he PROVE IT by rematching Phillips??
He could have done so instead of fighting and STRUGGLING with super-featherweight Jesse James Leija..

Shane skipped 140 to fight a much bigger and better fighter than Queen Kostya
WHY DIDN'T ZOO CALL SHANE OUT??He obviously wasn't as confident as his fans..
He even backpeddled on a Corey Spinks bout
Zoo held those titles HOSTAGE..All he has to show for his "reign" are wins against previously KO'd LIGHTWEIGHT Mitchell..and Zab Judah..Who was almost KO'd by the dreaded Jan Bergman
You mentioning Zoo's shitty name alongside Hagler and Monzon is crackhead reasoning
Those guys were never cold-cocked by homeless crack addicts
Zoo was against moving up..and gets credit for not doing so..but..he sure as hell wasn't against FIGHTING SMALLER FIGHTERS ON THE MOVE UP..

Kostya is one of the more difficult figther to harbor resentment against....and yet you seem to do it with ease. Your skills as a grump are hard to top.
Phillips risked everything with a kamikaze effort and it paid off. the man was crazy but the gamble worked.SandySadler wrote:Zoo sure as hell didn't think it was a "miracle"..he fled a rematch like a scalded dogBoxBuzz wrote:SandySadler wrote: dude fvck that clip..

Tszyu didn't need to move up to be great. He stopped his excellent peers Mitchell and Zab. Why be a welter when he's made for light welter?
Oscar was skinny as hell at 140 and couldn't sustain an attack. Tszyu would have torn his body to pieces and Kostya is a more skilled, accurate guy with a better offensive arsenal.
Jesus Fecking Christ, Oscar leans forward, gives away his height and reach and would have been made into mincemeat. He never even wanted to face Nazarov, never mind Tszyu.
Oscar certainly had weak moments. Felix Sturm anyone? How about running about 20 miles rather than let Felix Trinidad fight him? How about Mosley on steroids vs DLH II and having a comedown "with a monkey on my back" vs Wright? (the value of moving up in weight, getting pushed around by bigger guys...)
Tszyu dominated an excellent division. Weight hopping is a bit gimmicky and you have to admire fighters for the discipline of remaining in one weight class.
Sandy you must be the crackhead - Tszyu nearly KO'd by Jan Bergman. You're in fantasy land.
