Hatton/Mayweather - Ticket Situation

Post by Albert »

I still cannot believe there are not more of you out there shouting from the rooftops on what can only be described in my view as a complete farce with regards to the ticket allocation for the Hatton/Mayweather fight.

What then makes it worse - people are actually kidding themselves it is okay to pay hundreds of pounds to go to Vegas - not manage to get a ticket but yet it is okay to be plied for more money to watch the fight for $50 on a close circuit TV in a Casino there!!!

3,900 tickets allocated to Hatton was in my opinion derisory to say the least in the first place - Warren, Hobson, Maloney, Hearn or Hennessy would not have allowed that situation to take place - contracts would not have even been signed without the problems of tickets being sorted.

Then what is worse is over 55% of the 3,900 ticket allocation as publicised on the Hatton website were of the dearer version - how can that be right??

How many tickets have found their way to the travel agents, touts or whatever? - how and why did the tickets get to these people in the first place?

If this fight is generating so much money - and if people like Golden Boy, Team Hatton etc etc are that delighted with the interest generated in the fight - why did they not put up the fight on the close circuit TV in Vegas for free? surely with the money being generated it would have been a very small gesture and hardly would have eaten into the truly massive profits would it? - after all enough money will be generated by selling of beer and even more money through memorabilia.

Why are you the boxing fans accepting this situation? - why are more people not askig more questions concerning this ?

I would laugh at that, but I'm on a self-imposed vow of silence for the time being...

He raises a good point about the closed-circuit, though. It used to be commonplace before the masses had TV and then satellite TV, but I've always thought it was dodgy that TV within a certain radius of a fight would get blacked out, especially when it's a sell-out anyway. I'm sure most people in Vegas would rather see it in a sports bar for free than a cinema for $50.

Me and a half a dozen mates were intending on going over to Vegas for this one, but the plan got scrapped when we realised we were going to have to pay way over the odds for the tickets or travel 3000 odd miles to watch it on CCTV down the road from the fight.

The fact they the tickets were being sold 50 at a time to travel agents and touts exagerated the problem. Team Hatton play the 'I'm one of the Boys' card, but it looks like they weren't even considered when this contract was signed. Moan over.

Aren't you our resident boxing travel agent though, 'fess up

I'm not bothered about live fights, 50rows back with a bad view. I'll get a much better view in the comfort of my own house, with a nice cup of tea. And it'll cost allot less

There is the experience factor though. I was lucky enough to be ringside for Jamie Moore V mathew Macklin. A sensational experience.

Now you don't seriously think that Spud's post had anything to do with a possible breakdown in the Hatton/Hobson love in do you?

Of course it did, Columbo. Setting that aside, it doesn't mean that Ricky and Ray aren't answerable, does it? It's brilliant that Hatton-Mayweather is happening but it's a real shame that many of Hatton's loyal fans have suffered over what appears to be sheer greed.

No disrespect to the masses of Boxrec posters, but the concept of putting their hands into their pockets to support the sport they supposedly love appears to be alien for most. As usual, they'll just watch the fight on SKY box office or download it via a stream to save yet more money.

The majority of posters don't regularly attend shows so they struggle to see why so many Hatton fans are so disappointed. It's a bit like following your footy team from the 1st round in the Cup and then not being able to get a ticket for the final because all the tickets have gone to the big cheeses.

Their loyalty deserved better.

No arguments there, it was sheer greed to an extent but once Ray got what he wanted in terms of purse money he wasn't going to spend days back and forth negotiating over tickets. The MGM would have desperately wanted as many tickets as possible for corporate and high roller packages that will see those punters gamble shedloads on the casino floor before and after the fight.

They would sooner have those people at the fight than Hatton fans who will arrive in Vegas already broke having spent their life savings just to get there, get accommodation and buy a ticket for the fight. And lets face it any money left over for the majority of Hatton fans will be spent on beer and not gambling.

Very true. Additionally I think some here are being a little niave when it comes to the subject of negotiating a major, major fight.

Do you think Ricky and Ray held all the ace cards here? Was HAtton PBF's only option. Not by a long mark.

I am sure once the purse money was at a satisfactory level they closed out the deal as quickly and with as few caveats as they could - this is a HUGE fight to have landed and protracted arguements over an extra few hundred cheap seat tickets for manc scallies could have led to their position being compromised.

I dont blame Ricky and Ray - Vegas was built by, and runs on, gamblers money. The boys who turned out at the MEN and other British venues time and again (and I count myself amongst that number) aren't gonna make the MGM rich that or any other wkend.

Lets just all hope Ricky can produce a great performance that night - one that British boxiung can be proud of!

I've been to quite a few Hatton fights including Tszyu, Maussa and Castillo but there's no way I'm shelling out over the odds to some travel agency.

I agree with the point of Spud/Alberts argument, even if his motivation for the post is clearly Fight Academy sour grapes.

Never mind, I've decided I'll go to Cotto Mosley instead, better fight and hopefully next year Hatton-Cotto can be made at MSG.

i heard ray hatton on talksport about a week ago, he said it was verbally agreed how many tickets hatton fans were getting at a meeting before the paperwork was signed, i think 8K were agreed which is not too bad.

but...

how unprofessional of team hatton not to have such contract smallprint actually documented and signed for !!

NO GOOD HARPING ON ABOUT MISSING TICKETS MR HATTON !! WHEN YOU HAVE SHOWN BUSINESS NAIVEITY IN YOUR NEGITIATIONS !!

Gents,

Regardless of whatever motivation/biaisness or whatever you want to think of me - please take the time to read my post and please try to inform me on what one single point I am wrong.

See if you can keep to the the thread and leave the "Spud Bashing" for the school playground or like some of you are deluded enough to think like Kingy did in Vegas!!! :box:

Spud,
Look, you know the score where I'm concerned and I'll never fall out with you, but I will disagree with you !
Business is business and ultimately this is not a massive venue - 14,000 I believe.
As I understand it, the Casino have taken their slice to take care of the high rollers - fair enough, don't you agree ?
Thr Promotor, Golden Boy have taken their share to take care of their high rollers - fair enough don't you agree ?
7,800 left over. 3,900 to each of the fighters - fair enough ?
I just don't see why people have a gripe here.
I saw this coming from a mile off.
If the lunatics were stupid enough to book up their visit before having a ticket, more fool them. They clearly don't understand how boxing works.
They were there to be exploited and that's what has happened with the PPV charge.
I am very lucky, I have my tickets. They've cost me serious dough but hey this is an experience, not just a fight.

Terry D - you go on about my biasness - is your motivation that you know Hattons team read these boards and the rest of the Manchester crew and you spend most of your time in and around the boxing scene in Manchester? and thus if you even contemplate agreeing with my extremely valid points that would not be the done thing when you are trying to get a report or an interview at the gym?

It is always convenient to blame me isn't it? - I will repeat my points are valid whether you like it or not and to try to drown this thread in insults or remarks about me is really not going to deflect the issues.

Your interests in the boxing scene in Manchester makes you as biaised as I am - at least I admit to it.

I will say again name one point in my original post which is not valid.
