Does anyone know the significance of the star of David that Dave Sands wore on his boxing trunks?

I'm sure I read something about it in an 80's boxing mag but for the life of me can't remember the story behind it. Deve's nephew Russell Sands also wore the star of david on his trunks during his career (yet another tragic Sands)

It might have been like Elvis Presley, who wore the Star of David "just in case they were right."

Or maybe Dave just liked the design.

I just looked at the photo of the Sands Brothers on Boxrec. All of them have a star on their shorts. It was not the Star of David, but an ordinary solid white five pointed star.

I think it had something to do with his trainers gym, I think his name was Tom Maguire from Newcastle

I knew people in the 1960s who knew Sands. Their general opinion was that he was badly managed and should never have been driving the truck he was driving when he was killed. I don't know if Maguire was his manager as well as his trainer, but if he was he did Dave no favours.

How do you mean "badly damaged"?

Read it again. I wrote "badly managed." He was robbed blind by his manager and should have had a much better life.

I don't know too much about the Sands brothers but I do know they were country fellas who lived fairly simple lives, so it's no surprise to learn they were treated shabbily
