Ireland is NOT part of the UK.
And Andy Lee was born in London, which is in England, which was part of the UK the last time I checked
SO why is HE classed as IRISH ???????????
Maybe he looks Irish?
I don't know. I did get birthplace and residence mixed up. Either way, I see Ireland on Lee's record but not on Duddy's. I do see Northern Ireland on Duddy's.. which is part of the UK.

Personally I think BoxRec should be consistent in these matters.
Not one rule the Duddy and one rule for all the others
Anyway the matter will soon be out of their hands, once all the seperate countries in the UK go their seperate ways
We have plenty of boxers not named John Duddy from Northern Ireland. Though I imagine most of them are ethnically Irish, some of them probably see themselves as British. Since it's hard to be consistent by asking them all, they are listed as British, since Northern Ireland is part of the UK.

Yes, yes we have all been through this a 1,000 times - just John Shep conveniantly forgets about the terms of the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Friday_Agreement which states that the legal position and citizenship of those from Northern Ireland is different to the rest of the United Kingdom

How very very ignorant.
What's the point in discussing this sensitive
issue when this is the mentality you are up against
The man is Irish and is entitled to be addressed as being so. He was born on the island of Ireland and under the good friday agreement, has the right to be an Irish or British citizen.
He chooses to be Irish and has an Irish passport. How difficult is this to fathom for some people. List him as Irish and end this ridiculous debacle...

They aren't even listed as British anymore.. It just says "United Kingdom" which is even more broad.
It's funny that boxrec continue to list Duddy as Irish, yet they cannot even get his birth place correct, If he was or wanted to be British, surely Derry is incorrect now. Everyone knows that Derry does not exist if you are 'BRITISH'........

Huh? Isn't Derry in Northern Ireland? Which is in the UK? Hence the UK nationality setting.

It is called LondonDerry by Unionists and Derry by Nationalists .
Unfortunately we are dealing with some very immature and bigoted people.
It's a shame really as I was a fan of this site for so long.
But that's people for you. Give them a bit of 'power' and they
just can't handle it. A lack of class, a lack of manners and a lack
of decency. Goodbye BOXREC from a former member.
I'll be sure to warn anyone I come across of the bigotry (from a small few) on
this site and for them to steer well clear.....
Duddy, born in Ireland, travels under an Irish passport, fought for Ireland as an amateur, considers himself Irish, rejoices in the monicker "Ireland's John Duddy". But listed as British at BoxRec. Because "Northern Ireland was part of the UK when he was born".
Wayne McCullough, also born in the same "part of the UK", but now listed as American??????????????
How did Wayne become American so easily, yet any amount of hoops jumped through by Duddy and his people to affirm his Irishness isn't enough?
