INJURY ADVICE / NUTRITION

Post by banjaxd »

not so much a boxing thread but an injury thread so possibly relevant...
about 10 weeks back i had a motorbike accident and broke my left hand near the index finger, fractured my right humerous ( for the second time ) and hurt my right hand too...
i am starting nhs physio next week - any ideas what sort of rehab would be best for a humeral fracture and what foods would be best to promote healing...l
also how long before i can do any weight training or swimming ?...
these fractures are restrictive and painful but i heard somewhere that eating the right stuff can help - anyone know any more ?

Your physio will do a full assessment on your first appointment and formulate a treatment plan from there. The rehab for a humeral fracture depends on it's location. Either proximal, which may restrict shoulder range of movement, or distal which may effect the elbow. Your physio will look to retsore movement, strength and proprioception and decrease your pain. At 10 weeks post fracture you should have adequate callus formation to start swimming but again you must clear this with your physio. If you are still in pain maybe speak to your GP about a course of diclofenac which is an effective anti inflammatory.

Hope thats ok.
