Ward vs Laryea bill.

Post by stujones »

Oh well, Issac was brave but ultimately out of his depth. I thought after a minute that the body shots were giving him problems. Laryea was very strong and seemed to make Ward wince EVERY time he landed too the body. It would be certainly an area future Ward opponents should look for.

I know Laryea is a bit more of a known quantity than Asiku or Munyai - but I was wondering if any guys here think he could be in their class. I know Ward wasn't as good a Power - but it was as dominanting as either other African has be. Laryea could have some great contests for others.

Wouldn't mind seeing Ward vs Callaghan - a good sort of crossroads fight.

Incidently, for anyone at the event - anyone know what the guy sitting next to Tommy Gilmour was shouting at the ref for after the 2nd KD. Was it too stop the fight, or was he claiming the body shot was low or something. He seemed disgusted at the ref over something.

Rendell Munroe looked the part vs Callaghan - I think he would be too fit/fresh for Esham Pickering should they meet next. What a fight that could be.

Isn't Munyai only sucessful because of his size at Bantam though? He goes upto feather and wins a close one.

I don't think Laryea is as good as Asiku or Munyai, not by a long shot. Munyai wasn't even in shape, it seemed, for his last fight and didn't know who he was fighting til the last minute.

Laryea looks like a good body puncher & can have some good scraps - which is what it's all about in essence - but appears to lack that special ingredient. Doesn't look the most physically strong of guys and he allows his work to get smothered up close. Plus Nicky Cook already beat him.

He hasn't got a chance v Molitor.

So? fighters have been making lightest weight for ever.... Munyai is strong, can hit well, is aggressive to boot and had the beating of Martin Power all day long in both their fights. IMO he will be a world champion, and I hope his management get him some good defences soon to raise his profile.

The fight at feather was at short notice against Ramogadi who is not an easy fight for anyone ... took Nicky Cook the distance, and has only been stopped 4 times by three opponents, Tsenprev twice, Mitchell and John Murray.

He was easily beaten by Mitchell though and KO'ed.

If Munyai relies on size then It doesn't suprise me as this Is the case with many modern fighters.

If you have seen him and concluded that his only asset is his size, then thats up to you. Personally I feel that is severely under-rating him as a boxer.

I might be wrong about Laryea. Hope I am. His losses do look a bit Asiku-like, ie big step ups, late notice kind of thing.

You have to give Munyai credit for coming in and bashing up the British fighters. He did it with no build up, no promotion, no hype - just went in there and broke 'em down. Let's see if Napa wants to fight him - oh, wait a second, Ian doesn't want the Commonwealth belt. Lovely.

Ian Napa would be woefully undersized. The first fight against Power was supposed to be Power-Napa, then Munyai came in short notice.

I think Munyai was supposed to defend by end of september 07, but it looks like they might be having trouble finding him an opponent, unless anyone has heard different?

Heard reports Callaghan was really struggling for weight, was in and out the sauna in plastics and wet suits! :o he did look as if some of his strength was missing last night (even though only got himself to blame), I dont think this proves Munroe too fit/fresh for Pickering

don't know. they won't make the fights and we won't see much of him probably.

luckily we have some big doemstic talents: Murray, Barker, etc. I liked the look of Paul Truscott last night on the Laryea-Ward undercard.

He might lack power but he has a mature, well balanced look - none of all this amateurish Khan-rushing. Great to see a 21 yo who can feint, block, parry, and throw a variety of shots. Lovely balance. I'm keeping an eye on this fighter.

Asiku is the fighter who has most impressed me of the recent African imports - but I'd like to see him tested.

I think an arguement about Munyai's size is his big factor at Bantamweight - thats why I think a fight with Laryea at Super Bantam would be intriguing. I think Laryea would start as underdog against Asiku and Munyai - but I think he would test them more than pretty much any Brit (Cook and possibly Matthews aside vs Asiku).

Dave Garside. Ward's promoter and former heavyweight who once stopped Glen McCrory. Think he thought some of those body shots were low.

It was good to see the corners of Issac and Marc being compassionate.

He's a talented prospect who boxed for England in the vest and was top ten-rated. I think he's only something like 22, so has plenty of time on his side.

I saw him fight Riaz Durgahed in Dudley earlier in the year, undercard of Eastman-Ashira, and he showed skills that could take him to a very respectable level. I was impressed with his hand-speed and the way he could move in-and-out of range without catching a shot.

He boxed Walsall's Stevie Gethin earlier on in his paid career and Steve told me he was one of the best – skills-wise – that he has boxed, and Gethin has been in with Amir Khan, Billy Corcoran…

Steve decked him during that scrap, by the way.

cheers for the info. did any of his fights get shown on Sky Sports undercards? His mastery of range, use of angles, defense, ring generalship, agility and variety have really impressed me. I was impressed y Darren Barker the previous & i believe I've seen another big prospect in Truscott.
