I can't see why you have all this good will in Warren, especially after he makes this fecking disgrace of a fight.
I'm not exactly defending this kind of opposition. I'm not as bad as made out.

I'm asking whether people believe most of the excuses from other promoters because they hate Warren so much. Just seems that way.

Maybe they spent most of the cash on Calzaghe and Kessler so they end up putting on a shitty undercard.
When I started following boxing I always gave Warren the benifit of the doubt because he promoted Calzaghe and Hatton and to a lesser extent Farrel who were the fighters I was interested in, however there are only so many times I can hear the same excuse about people ducking there fighter people having flu and the shots not being out there before you think its bullshit, while other british promoters with much less clout are able to get good quality fights on good bills.

This time the main event is a 50-50 affair, so we can't expect one of the stable's other stars to be in a fight he could lose, can we? LOL. What next? Amir Khan in with someone with a 90% KO record on Saturday night TV? I think we've just got to be grateful for Joe-Kessler this time.
Well said, we have a feast of fights to look forward to Hatton/Mayweather, Haye/Mormeck and at another level Gomez/Johanssen so lets be grateful - Finding an opponent for big Enzo hasnt been easy but hopefully we will see him in a 50/50 next time.
Spoken like someone who works for SN.... why should we be thankful for a handful of 50-50 fights???..... and dont feed us the line that its so hard to match Enzo!!..... theres no excuse for this fight and anyone with half a brain knows that!.... :box:
Work for SN, you must be joking - I do think the fights I mentioned and of course Calzage/Kessler (which I forgot to) are the best invoving British fighters for years - Maybe it is only a handful of fights but they are brilliant matchups - As far as Enzo is concerned I heard they were running out of time finding an opponent for him - Maybe money was an issue, not being willing to pay an opponent enough for an undercard matchup to fight Enzo - Its time anyway Enzo stopped fighting on Calzaghe undercards and fought a fighter like Bell as a main event or even better David Haye, the one we all want to see.

There's a great main event but the main event is the only fight where the SN fighter can lose. Maybe this is the reason.

They've basically talked bollocks, mention unification probably with no intention of making that kind of fight and have missed an opportunity to build Enzo's name. I love watching Enzo fight, but come on, I want some 2-way action and I want it to last more than 3 rounds!

All those good or interesting fighters in the wilderness and they chose Sellers who'd retired not long ago. This factor gets me thinking it was planned all along, as Khan was matched with a guy who'd decided to call it a day recently (Bull).

Sorry, but Sellers for an opponent is a complete joke. He hasn't had a good win for almost six years and when you dig deeper, he barely has any good wins on his overall resume. He had a three year layoff after back to back KO losses, fights Troy Beets, then gets ranked in the top 15??!!?!? How does that work?

Sellers does have power, but with him being rusty, and almost 40, he doesn't have much of a shot here. They are just looking for an easy KO opponent with a name for Enzo.

Sorry, but I don't want to hear they used all the money for the undercard. The Hatton/Mayweather is shaping up to have a great undercard, with a great main event. Wilson has been calling out Enzo. He would be a great opponent, and wouldn't cost a ton either. Enzo's camp never even gave a call to Cunningham's people, despite what I hear from others on this site. Point blank, they could have found somebody better than Sellers, anyone at this point. Hell, even Jirov would have been better.....

Sellers is not really the best opponent for Enzo right now, but I don't think it is Warren's fault that the WBO ranked Sellers #15 after his win over the immortal Troy Beets. I doubt Frank called up the WBO and begged them to put Sellers in the ratings so Enzo could get an easy title defense.

However if Enzo dares criticize Darnell Wilson for losing five times, he should look in the mirror and discover Darnell has been fighting the better competition of late. Sorry Enzo, but beating Lord Bobby Gunn amounts for two things: Jack and Shit.

I think it IS Fwanks fault entirely.

How many of his fighters get dubious rankings with the WBO, and how many of his WBO champs have had defences against guys who suddenly got bumped up into the top 15 of their rankings after doing fvck all(Sellars,Gunn, half of Calzaghe's victims..etc etc)

I have no doubt he has influence with thew WBO, and I bet it takes a bit more than just a phone call to get what he wants(or should I say, WHO he wants) :TU:

It to me seems that it makes bad business sence. Somone like Enzo should take every oppertunity to build his carrer and profile stateside if he wants to make big $$$. Fighting discredited opponents on a bill which will be telivsed in the USA isn't going to do that.

Just like with Hatton and Calzaghe, Warren is going to waste Enzo's prime years fighting nobodys (Michael Stewart, Will McIntyre, Bobby Gunn), or names which will look good on his record until you delve a little deeper and see that they havent been contenders for a number of years ( Vince Phillips, Charles Brewer, Ezra Sellers). Its a fckin joke how he can get away with this time after time and still be considered by many to be 'Britains top promoter'.

He's getting a rep as someone who fights bums and that is halfway house to a rep as someone who NEEDS to fight bums.

I don't think he needs protecting - he looks the real deal.
It probably has more to do with television.....i don't know if HBO are planning on showing much of the undercard action from Cardiff, but Enzo sparking Sellers with a single punch in either the first or second round would look impressive......well to the more naive viewers at least

another point......if Enzo was to do the business against another frindge world class opponent, like Braithwaite...that would be all well and good but only for 7 days if Haye does the same thing to Mormeck

Oh he has a lot of influence with the WBO, that's why he has produced so many 'World' champions. If he went the WBA/WBC route he'd have had half as many.

It may be a little presumptuouse to assume Haye will do the business considering if he didn't then Enzo's stock would rise by comparison.

It would be horrible if Haye's credibility nose dives because he's willing to take risks. Just a thought.

Was choosing Braithwaite as an opponent any different to choose Sellers though? Wayne came back off Inactivity as well with a journymen win but Enzo Is credited for that.

I'd rather Enzo fought Herbie, and that really speaks volumes. I think Hide would get chinned and blame it on lack of training/interest, instead of admitting to age and rust. But at least we'd feel an element of excitement on the bell.

Blame the WBO, they are in the thrall of promoters, not just Warren, it's why the WBO title is beloved of European promoters, get on the blower, and they are glad to oblige with any manner of ridiculous rankings. I'm not saying the other sanctioning bodies aren't guilty of it also, but the WBO does seem to be particularly compliant to the big European promoters.

What possible justification could there be for ranking Sellers in the top 15?

Each to his own James, but I think Peter Sellars would make a better opponent, admittedly due to the fact he'd likely be in a suit of armour back to front and spins uncontrolably dodging punches before innadvertently knocking Enzo out with a rack of skis he's just fallen into.

Disgusting, shallow, TRANSPARENT match up. It's never a good sign when you can see the matchmaking and the manufacturing so easily. Enzo is very poorly regarded now - AGAIN - and Warren gets by so long as he stages a fight for any piece of shit title with a "W" on the front!

How can Enzo say that David Haye is avoiding him now?

This match is a joke, yet if Enzo blows Sellars out, he will be proclaimed boxings most chilling puncher(I believe Barry said that on ITV after his KO of Hobson).

Haye may not be the finished article but he is fighting the man at his weight in his backyard and hasn't even had 20 fights. How can you not like that?

Poor fight, hard to justify given Sellers' inactivity and patchy form. If he lands clean though it will be goodnight Enzo...

Also, wouldn't people agree that Sellers is a more credible challenger than Gavin Rees BEFORE he fought M'Baye?

Wayne Braithwaite is far tougher test than the likes of Europeans Johanneson and Fragomeni who Haye made hard work of.

I believe Enzo's been a pro longer than Haye. Enzo had the WBU route to get him up to scratch; Haye went the European route. Enzo beats Braithwaite; Haye has a shot at Mormeck the same year...

Hope Haye bashes Mormeck, not just because I like Haye, but so he can show up his domestic "peer."

and mormeck is better than braithewaite so whats your point?

Alos against Johansen Haye wantred to get 12 rounds under his belt cos he had been blowing out the likes of Prince Arthur Gurov (who is better than the likes of hobson if we wanna be pedantic).....Fragominni he came back well from an awful cut, again good learning.

Need those type of fights to mature mate.

Hope ezra gets lucky to be honest.

Gurov gave Mormeck a tougher fight than Braithwaite. He certainly won more rds than Big Truck did (although Gurov got stopped).

Gurov was top 10 cruiserweight when Haye starched him.
