Froch on the outside looking in

Post by Lightsoot »

Will Carl Froch land a major fight anytime soon? At 30, he needs to get a move on and, crucially, remain injury free. Hennessy eventually delivered for Junior Witter but it took him a looong time.

Froch's hopes of taking on the winner of Calzaghe-Kessler may have been dashed. He's no longer no.1 with the WBC having being displaced by Jurgen Brahmer (Froch is now ranked 2).

Perhaps Hennessy will have to take him down the IBF route against Alejandro Berrio (Froch is currently at 3, number 2 is currently vacant, Lucian Bute is at 1).

I worry for Froch, he isnt actually that young and has been knocking around for nearly 6 years now...

Its time to get a move on, I dont think fighting Robin Reid is going to make any waves...

Fight Bute, even go to Canada..Froch will not be spoon fed a title

I'm sure I read that once Carls disposed of Reid they'll be looking for an eliminator or a title shot next. Bring on the BIG boys after Reid, I just hope that politics don't get in the way and that he doesn't get avoided

Carl seems to be the model pro, so barring serious injury i'd expect him to be around for at least another 4 years. I don't think Carl is particularly shopworn either.

Froch is a very good fighter and a disciplined professional.

But he's 12-18 months behind schedule IMO.

I interviewed him in November 2005 and they were aiming for the European shot in the Spring 06 and then on to the world's.

I know he's had an injury to overcome but I think his progress has been measured to the point of stagnating.

Rob Reid is a rugged, durable challenge but will afforf him little in the quest for a world title shot that he doens't alreayd have.

I like Hennessey Sports. They have big talent coming up (Murray, Barker), they have a world title holder (Witter). They promote good domestic action (Thaxton, British champ) & they don't tolerate any WBO or WBU tomfoolery.

The only real problem is the speed with which they move their fighters.

Yeah the Reid fights seems a bit pointless to be honest, no win situation for Froch unless he blasts him out very early and even then people will question what desire Reid had left anyway.

I've never taken to Froch's personality but clearly he can fight and is probably at his peak now. Any more humdrum defences and he'll go stale.

Witter's with the Ingles, I think Thaxton is too, and Murray's with a guy who taught him how to box (I believe).

I always thought it was weird Eastman being trained by McCracken.

Well my undersranding is that he's hoping his next fight if for the european title him just having been made tne mandetory. I think Reid is a good fight comming off an injury, I have certainly seen worse making time fights.

He has won british and commonwealth titles and appears to be able to genuinly clame to have beaten all who would fight him including taking what was apparently a high risk low reward fight vs Dodson.

They were trained by them since their Amateur days though. Some of the other Hennessy prospects who have no trainer when they turn pro end up with Rob.

Remember, Calzaghe only won a title when he was 34.

A Calzaghe win next month will open up the division no end. He seems to be looking to 175 and wouldn't be surprised if he vacates the belts at 168. That leaves 3 titles for Froch to aim for. This all depends on Calzaghe winning of course. I think Kessler would be more likely to try and hold onto the 168 titles and fight the top available contenders there.

Froch v Brahmer in an eliminator would be a good one. Or perhaps a vacant title fight if Calzaghe wins and vacates that belt?

Yep, a fight with Brahmer would be good, Bute or Inkin would also be good for Froch, and all winnable imo. Not sure about a Mundine fight - if he fights again that is... Carl could KO him, but I wouldn't have money on it. I thought the Inkin fight was being looked at a while back, last year maybe? Any ideas?

well I imagen the european title shot would become a de facto title elimination/title fight.

I think Froch v Inkin was being mentioned as a possible WBO elminator at one stage.

Calzaghe definately wont fight Froch - Cant really see Kessler fighting him either win or lose against Calzaghe - Dennis Inkin would be a very good fight and a real test IMO - Froch must have a current world class opponent after Reid and then hopefully a crack at a title.

Can't see why Kessler wouldn't fight him he has shown a willingness to take hard fights and isn't moving up as far as I know and if Calzaghe fights reid then goes for the european shot he would be a natural opponent at the weight.

I think Froch will get his shot soon enough, the big fight at the weight is happening after that there aren't too many other fights. Would be good to see Froch in with Lacy maybe.

Lacy is a class above Manfredo indeed so is Tsypko who he beat in his come back fight in my oppinion.

After that however he may have got some of his credibility back prime for being KOed by froch.

I think Lacy will obliterate Manfredo if it happens.

I think he should do too, Manfredo is small, static and easy to hit, ideal conditions for Lacy.
