Floyd gets KO'd.....by the Paso Doble

Post by Chambers2 »

Floyd's last night on dancing with the starts was last night. He got the ax, which puts him back in exclusively Vegas for seven plus weeks to train for the fight with Hatton.

Quote:

The undefeated welterweight boxer was voted off of Dancing with the Stars Tuesday, despite having done a "bloody good job" on his paso doble and scoring his first pair of eights last night on his way to a grand total of 23. He is the fourth celebrity to leave the hit ABC series' fifth season; eight contestants remain.

"It was marvelous just being here, just to get to this plateau," Mayweather, 30, said. "We had a great time. Thank you so much."

And then, with a deadpan prompt from host Tom Bergeron, he plugged his Dec. 8 title fight—which you can catch on pay-per-view—one last time.

I've heard a few rumblings that Mayweather's appearence on the show may have been an iniative by Golden Boy Promotions.

Here is a quote from Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy regarding Floyd's time on the show:

"The ratings (for the show) exceed 15 million every week. So if you have this huge audience, every week, watching and seeing Floyd Mayweather, it certainly increases his profile to a non-sports audience."

Apparently some of the cast will be invited to the fight which should contribute to it being a high profile event with additional coverage.

I think it's clear this should have been some good exposure for boxing.

Any concerns about this conflicting / distracting from Floyd's training are a moot point now. He'll spend the stretch run and most important part of his camp without this as a distraction.

I don't think there was ever any doubt that this was a marketing/ promotional exercise ahead of Dec 8th....
