...the real pros..louis, lamotta, pep..and on and on and on...who put on their robes, walked out of their dressing rooms, climbed into the ring went to work. some of louis' fights were shorter than these amateure night entrances.

incidentally the "gotta get to work" or "gotta go to work" was a phrase joe louis used sometimes as he was ready for the walk to the ring.

i guess there's nothing wrong with these flashy ring entrances and if you enjoy them, that's fine with me. i just prefer to see all that action in the ring instead.

i am reminded though of the many rock stars who have flash, fireworks, and all that stuff going on in back of them, and i comapre them to sinatra. came out, grabbed the mike, and sang..solo..on the stage by himself

but....it's generational and showmanship changes as does everything else.

When you pay $90 for a ticket to concert I reckon they should throw in some fireworks!

Will Smith recently did an "Old School" tour, where there was nothing flash just him on the stage with a mic... Some people loved it and I bet Smith did as well considering the tickets were still $90 but he didn't have even half the production costs of his normal shows!

Tyson entrances in his early days cannot be beaten IMO.

Simple, no nonsense, no robe, socks etc, just twitching his neck; the opponent knew he was in for a world of hurt.

I think that scared his opponents half to death, because they knew that he was in no mood for nonsense & just wanted to get on with the job.

Lennox Lewis is just a stone. You can see it during his fights, you can see it during the HBO broadcasts, you can see it if you ever talk to him... he just appears to be "out there." He hardly ever shows any real emotion. He can be very intimidating at times.

I remember that this entance caused some controversy in the U.S.

I'm a half-gyppo, half-kike (yeah, I know, I blame the parents meself) from the UK.

It was, as ever with Naz, tasteless. Anything that equates boxing with death is just food for the abolitionists, IMO, so I just think it's a bad idea. I cringe whenever someone goes "I'd die in that ring" or similar, maybe 'cos I've been present when someone nearly did.

More on-topic, Andrsej Golota's ring entrances, in any fight he got knocked out in, but especially the Lewis fight. Number one in the "I'm on more drugs than a racehorse"-bugged-eyes rolling- teeth-gnashing- involuntarily twitching - clearly disturbed -stakes, methinks...

& I agree, completely fascinating character.

Can't be bothered watching him in the ring any longer, but the fella's extracurricular activities are the stuff of legend, or should be.
