Scott Belshaw
Scott Belshaw
I remember seeing a TV show a while back featuring this guy. He's a 22 year old hard hitting 6 ft '7 heavyweight from Northern Ireland. Anybody hear much about him lately? Seems to be getting no media coverage at all. Has already fought three times this year (last time at end of June) and is 6-0 with 5 KOs. How often do you think somebody like this guy should be fighting? He made his debut in October 2006 and has six fights so far but that has only been 11 rounds with only 6 of them being full rounds. Unless he's injured I'd expect him to be fighting more regularly than this from an experience point of view.

He is injured, had his kneecap smashed in a car accident in the week after his last fight. Seems to have a bit of power but very, very raw.johnswan1 wrote:I remember seeing a TV show a while back featuring this guy. He's a 22 year old hard hitting 6 ft '7 heavyweight from Northern Ireland. id like to see him fight martin rogen for the irish title
I think he was lined up to fight Rogan in September before the car accident. There was a picture of him on the cover of the Ulster Star and he looked in a bad way. Can't see him being back anytime soon, maybe Eamonn Magee can give him some rehabilitation tips.
He had looked decent so far as a pro and recently KO'd Chris Wollas in 1 round at the Holiday Inn, Belfast. Belshaw has power but looked raw and lacked any form of a jab, just waded in with wide hooks from what i saw of him.

Lisburn's heavyweight prospect Scott Belshaw will continue his boxing career, despite earlier reports that his career was in jeopardy. The undefeated Belshaw was in a horrific car crash resulting in broken ribs and a fractured kneecap which is now in a heavy cast.
However such is the determination of the 6ft 7" power puncher that he is already back in light training at Alan Wilton's Eastside Gym in Belfast. Belshaw said, "I just cant wait to get back in the ring. I hate being bound up in the house. Everything was going so well and then it changed, all in a minute, but I know I will be fighting again. This is only a temporary delay."
Recalling the night of the accident Belshaw said, "I was on the road from Banbridge to Lisburn after working on the door at "The Coach" when a lorry collided with me. I was there trapped and in shock and when I tried to get out I couldn't. I thought I was paralysed. I managed to get out and was lying on the side of the road. I remember shaking like I was having a fit but it was just the whole shock of the accident".
"It seemed to me like I was lying there for five minutes but it turned out to be an hour before a taxis man came along and phoned for an ambulance. I was lying there praying I'd be alright".
Scott has impressed at this early stage of his career with 6wins (5 by KO) and was on course for a Irish title fight against Belfast's toughman and fellow undefeated prospect Martin Rogan.
This contest has now been "put on the back burner" while the 22 year old Belshaw recuperates. "I'm so determined to come back and get my career going again. I hope the fight with "Rogie" can be made next year. I want fights that will take my career on."
"It's such a sickener for me at the moment, it's really doing my head in and I can't wait until I have that first good training session. But I know I have to wait until the kneecap is cleared up. The ribs are fine. The good thing was that the kneecap was a clean break so it will heal more easily. But I will be having 2 to 3 months intensive physio on the knee and I would like to be fighting again early in the new year. I'm still young so I have time on my side".

scott belshaw
i came across this forum 2day and i am not surprized by some of the comments.all i can say is i have never been a technically great fighter, was george foreman?no he wasn, and look where he got.billy bessey wrote:if this fight does come off id have a nice little bet with anyone that rogie beats him even though rogan is no world beater i think belshaw is terrible really strong but terrible he needs 2 years or so to learn how to box b4 he thinks about titles and how can they be fighting for the title when mcbride holds it and wont give it up and also surely colin kenna warrants a shot at the irish title more then them 2
i am not arguin that i have much 2 learn cause i do,but i gather from readin the comments on this forum there is many doubts in peoples head about me.
i dont care.since the day i walked in2 the gym all i have have had is doubters.
look at the heavy weight division 2day,its a mess!
all i know is that since the day i was born i had god given strengh, and im going 2 use it.
rogie...wait and see.im not under any illusion that its going 2 be an easy fite...besides him knockin me out....he may kill me if he wants 2 do that.
Nice to see yopu on here scott. I met you in Dublin (in the hotel bar) following the Martinez Dunne fight, top bloke, fecking huge too. Actualy had a pic take with you and your fist appears to be the same size as my head. At 22 you can be as raw as you like, in the current climate you have what? 18 years left to ply your trade!!
What was your amateur background etc... ?

I think any big heavyweight is going to draw attention Scott. Especially one with a decent amateur record. Boxing needs some decent heavyweights, especially domestically, so we hope the next one with potential we see we all hope for the best. Certainly after Audley.ko1-lightsout wrote:well mate every1 is entitled 2 there opininon and i cant argue that.personally i didn even realise there was alot of hype, especially as me being a world beater all ready...that defo not the case yet.billy bessey wrote:SCOTT just looked at my comments again and i was out of order by saying your terrible your far from it its just on this and other sites people had you down as a world beater already and after watching you theres a long long way to go before that happens and people are hyping you up far too soon i bet when you read my comments you thought cheeky c... how can he talk with his record which is true but i post on this website as a boxing fan not a boxer so good luck for the future and keep learning mate you have got time on your side so use it

Now go win some titles!
Just to say Hello mate... I saw you stop a stocky russian fella in Dagenham... my comment was based on that fight, you seemed to whale away at his head with hooks, I know he wasnt a threat as such, but I had heard good things about you.... and you could have put on a show skills-wise and still stopped him, i think we both know he was never going to beat you.ko1-lightsout wrote:well mate every1 is entitled 2 there opininon and i cant argue that.personally i didn even realise there was alot of hype, especially as me being a world beater all ready...that defo not the case yet.billy bessey wrote:SCOTT just looked at my comments again and i was out of order by saying your terrible your far from it its just on this and other sites people had you down as a world beater already and after watching you theres a long long way to go before that happens and people are hyping you up far too soon i bet when you read my comments you thought cheeky c... how can he talk with his record which is true but i post on this website as a boxing fan not a boxer so good luck for the future and keep learning mate you have got time on your side so use it
