Whilst a few will miss the championships and there will always be surprises and the draw is vital few medallists will come from outside these lists

At 60 kg, Sadam Ali and at 64 kg, Javier Molina, both from USA, if they get a decent draw will surprise people and finish in the top 8. Molina beat Karl Dargan in the US Championships and Dargan won the gold in the Pan Am's beating Gonzalez from Puerto Rico in the finals.
As always, the draw plays a big part.
I pick Rau'shee Warren to win the gold at 51 kg.

Not exactly huge news, but Canada's super-heavy representative, Didier Bence, will not be taking due to the same injury that forced him out of the Panams semis. His alternate is probably Roch Bousquet, talented but extremely green. I don't know if he'll make the trip.

In Chicago, AIBA will also be introducing their new logo and name change to International Boxing Association. IBA
I don't like that they are taking amateur out of the name. IBA sounds like all of the oher alphabet pro organizations. The word is that they feel it is a better marketable name. They will also give the officials a new patch/badge to wear with the new logo.

I am surprised that Jerome Thomas is still boxing amateur and has not turned pro.
Russian middleweight Matvei Korobov is going to win again. For a Russian, he has a great pro style and will do very well as a pro when he goes that route. I first saw him beat Joe Greene in the finals of the junior worlds in '04. He has always impreased me with his power.

Here are my thoughts which may deal with some of the posts

World and Asian champion Shiming is a worthy favourite but did suffer a recent loss to Serdamba and may be vulnerable.Zhakipov has won a world medal and did upset Ayrapetan recently.However both the Russian and Bedak are former world junior champions.Yanez may not have the talent of the top four but he is fighting at home and has a real squeak.Serdamba may fight at 51 where he is less effective.

Balakshin has been unstoppable all year and represents europes best chance in this division.The Korean world champion may not be be competing and the biggest threat may come from the Pan American three who all look strong.Payla and Jongjohor should never be overlooked.

With Rigo missing this is a great chance for the young russian who had a fine junior career.Mammadov is talented but may not be there and their is a wealth of experience in the challengers.Russell like Warren should pick up a medal.

Selimov has dominated the featherweight division and is a hot favourite but Lomachenko the brilliant world junior champion could surprise a few people.Whoever represents the Kasakhs has a real medal chance.France and Mongolia have strong teams at this tournament

It is entirely possible that the complete roster won't be published until all participants have checked in.

It's a bit difficult this time since the cubans don't participate and there are no clear favorites in some divisions. Also I haven't seen the official russian team so I'm not sure in some weight classes. Anyway here are my predictions:

48: I go with 2005 world champ Zou Shiming (CHN). Runner Up: Birzhan Zhakypov (KAZ)

51: Host countrys best bet Raushee Warren gets my vote. Runner Up: Ok Sung Lee (KOR) impressed heavily last time out but I'm not sure he'll be there. Otherwise Georgi Balakshin (RUS) gets my vote.

54: In the abscence of Rigondeaux it's a tough division to predict but my vote goes to Sergey Vodopyanov (RUS) and Runner Up to Worapoj Petchkoom (THA).

57: Albert Selimov is just too fast so he gets my vote. Runner Up: Alexei Shaidoulin (BUL)
