Calzaghe is in for fright here. But I think he is such a rounded fighter, the chinw ill be tucked and the handspeed on full display.
Calzaghe 8-4 or 7-5.
CALZAGHE VE KESSLER - POST YOUR SENSIBLE PREDICTIONS HERE
if I recall right, O'Connor did a good jo with Martinez-Dunne. He did make 2 very early super middle stoppages wihin about 2 weeks of each other, Calzaghe-Manfredo & Froch-Tatvosyan (though BOTH were hopelessly outgunned/outclassed).jangeorg wrote:I agree,i don`t hope that fat pig to Terry O'Connor will be the refereeAlbert wrote:The choice of Referee and the judges is going to be crucial - said before it will be a controversial fight - extremely curious who they will get in for the judges.DavidPayne wrote:Is this Calzaghe v a fresh Woodhall?

Damn he;s looking more like his dad already!
The hair do will be the same soon!
I'm changing my prediction to Kessler by TKO.

Just kidding, Calzaghe's not having too many problems.
Just watched the Andrade fight In full for the 1st time Instead of clips and you could of made a case for Andrade winning 2 rounds In there. Kessler was constantly pushed back, hit with half assed shots and couldn't stop the limited pressure fighting of Andrade.
The fight was more competitive than the cards suggested.
Calzaghe can stop come foward pressure fighters throwing anything.

Andrad hits much harderRed Medicine wrote:Calzaghe struggled much more with the 6'0" Bika than Kessler did with the 6'2" then-undefeated Andrade. You could argue that Andrade is also a much harder hitter than Bika. That tells you all you need to know about who handles pressure more effectively.
Bika is much faster

If Bika had came to win he would of been outclassed even more, even though he was still outclassed anyway and just fouled and held.Red Medicine wrote:Calzaghe struggled much more with the 6'0" Bika than Kessler did with the 6'2" then-undefeated Andrade. Bika would make Kessler look bad too.
I was only joking when I said Calzaghe would outbox Andrade one handed but now I believe It!
Max Molyneux wrote:I'm still not seeing how above average orthodox skills will trouble Joe? Joe's style Is great for beating Kessler
An orthodox jab will often be used against a southpaw, in order to settle for other punches when the southpaw tries to get in. In other words it is usually displayed as bait, because the southpaw will fell safe to move when he has evaded the jab.
And
Kessler has EXCELLENT fundamentals:jab, straight right, left hook. Three weapons which are awesome v a southpaw, and allow Kessler to control JoeCalzaghe's speed. Kessler also has an excellent sense of distance and is able to control it. This could be vital
Kessler was masterful against Andrade. Andrade has big reach and Kessler isn't the most agile of fighters yet he controlled the fight with hard, straight punches. Andrade could reach him but not much else. He did some superb moves in there, drawing Andrade's right hand, taking a 1/2 step to the side and pelting him with rights and lefts on Andrade's blind side. Andrade is a legitimate top 10 opponent. Calzaghe's mandatories (one every 4 or 5 years) are laughable compared to taking on a tough guy like Andrade. The WBO have even exempted him from fighting mandatories it seems (making him super champion and not giving Inkin a shot).

Andrade fought like a caveman yet was able bloody Kessler's nose and trouble him with a lower workrate and pressure. Gave Andrade the 10th only but the 12 could of gone either way. Kessler won this fight being the more skilled but couldn't stop Andrade from throwing caveman punches.
Kessler's defence Is mainly tucking In the elbows.
Mitchell's jab couldn't control Calzaghe's handspeed. Kessler's weakness can be a good southpaw who will put on the pressure and workrate.

Height Is Irrelevant, his style would result In him being battered by Calzaghe.Red Medicine wrote:Andrade is half a foot taller than Lacy, and three inches taller than Calzaghe. I guarantee you that it wouldn't be a "Lacy job."Max Molyneux wrote:He would get a Lacy job If he fought Calzaghe though, Calzaghe loves styles like Andrade.Andrade is a tough opponent for anyone![]()
Also, why aren't people talking about Calzaghe's age? His game is based primarily on speed, and at 35-36, speed usually begins to diminish.
35 Is supposed to be old for Boxing but Joe hasn't been In wars or took any damage so he should be fine for November 3rd. Speed Isn't his only quality.
I pick Calzaghe to win this one. I just think he has been about as close to unbeatable as you are likely to get.
He is also, for me, Britain's premier boxer (ability wise), I have never bought into the idea of that being Ricky Hatton, as good as Hatton is.
Joe is on a different level in my opinion.
Anyone know if Calzaghe has a boxing nickname (as tho not having one has hampered his career!!)...would be the most successful boxer NOT to have a nickname ever, surely.
there's been a few just off the top of my head...dark destroyer, celtic warrior, the brown bomber, iron mike, ( i realise this list could end up very , very long), probably the bombers on their own would take a night, (Herol also).....the greatest....did jack johnson have one? (must have done surely)
How does one start a thread on this thing?? how about best nickname for a boxer?
also someone let me know if Chris Eubank had one as I can't for the life of me remember, cheers.
