Mike is making all the right noises, even commenting on how bad he looked in sparring aginst Morris and Crolla..hes in great shape..

Is he fagile? God only knows!

As for Carl hes coming of an absolute caning and tbh hasnt had that much time off..yep Leva hits hard but something wasnt right and from rumours on here things still arent..

If Mike isnt shot he will KO him in 5
Whats behind all these rumours that Carl isnt 'right' whats the problem with his training??.... I dont understand his management putting him into a fight like this if he has out of the ring troubles.....

Who is he training with then??.... Maloney seems to think he's in shape from what I've read, but then again he's also said that defeat would be a disarster and there would be no excuses, which sounds like a bit of a warning for Carl.
If Carl has problems it seems strange that he hasnt been given more time to get his head together....
On the other hand this fight may be a master stroke by Carls management because if Gomez really did struggle against Thorpe then he's plainly at the end of the road and wont last long, but then again int unlikely Gomez was 'up' for Thorpe and the possiblity is that Carls management has made a big mistake in picking this fight for him at this point....

thing is Johanneson's not the challenger.......he's the champ....he HAS to fight (sooner or later)......lesser of 2 evils, give up the belt for nichts or get in there and go down blazing if that's what it takes.
unless he really has some head problems of the sort that Frank Bruno suffered with, in which case he's better off nowhere near a ring

OMG lmao only problems carl has had was a breakdown in camp relations.
as 4 the kirokosyan fight and his HEAD, when he faced him 3.5 yrs ago his long term girlfriend who was terminally ill had just passed away.
the ebu match 3 months ago physically imo he was prepared 4 the fight but not mentally, its hard enough getting bk in the ring with some one that beat u, and the psychological stigma that goes with it, without the fact that it was within 101 seconds and the emotions it was gona bring back up in relation to the lady he lost.
his head certanley aint in no "Frank Bruno" state
Yes it was a shocking defeat in july but not a huge suprise. so please lets talk facts, not unreliable, unjustifiable chinese whispers and crap.

can't fault Johanesson for taking Gomez as a VOLUNTARY. for a guy with some demons he fought bloody well.

:TU: well said!

i know right! he could av sulked(after kirokosyan), he could had taken a safer opponent especially as it was his 3rd defence and winning the belt outright was at stake. but he showed balls and confidence.
just b coz he wasnt jumping up and down n shouting like gomez dont mean he isnt capable. carls a very private man and did his mouthing off in the ring. Well Done Carl

I've always been a big fan of Carl, like the way he fights and that he doesnt go for this mouthy stuff out of the ring, makes a nice change these days. I think his performance against Gomez shows that hes far from finished and can still improve, it was impressive the way he kept a cool head in there and slowly dismantled Gomez.....

Did anyone think Gary Reid was a tad unfortunate last night? I thought he edged John Fewkes and landed the better quality shots. Fewkes tried to knick it on the back foot but I don't think he was very effective.

I had it 4 rounds to 3 for Reid with one round even.

I had reid winning 2 rds, in other words reid quite far behind...while Fewkes was doign his negative stuff Gary couldn't get set to land punches...Good last rd by reid but left it too late & had an opponent who moved too much for him.

I thought Fewkes did enough to win, a lot of Reids work was messy and he just didnt throw enough punches, its no good just going forward and not landing. But it was a close fight and Fewkes was too negative at times, but it was only his 16th pro fight so I think some of the criticism of him here has been a bit harsh, at least theyre putting him in with decent opposition at this stage of his career and I liked his attitude after the fight, all in all he's a good prospect and pretty good to watch though he needs to get stronger and be a bit more positive but that will all come with time and more maturity....

I thought Feewkes won comfortably. He wasnt going to have a tareup with the cut eye saying that he wasnt without one. A little wide is John, get that sorted he will do well, this fight to me was a Banana skin he came through.

Thought Fewkes JUST edged it, but could see an arguement for 4-4 or even 4-3-1 to Reid. I thought the Glyn Rhodes was a little too calm in the corner, they seem to think it was in the bag. Not sure I would do that to a fighter, even if I did believe it was close.

The punch stats in the end were VERY close and I think the meatier (if not eye catching) shots were landed by Reid. I certainly didn't think Rhodes was animated enough in a fight that could have been clearly open to an interpretation different to his own - wasn't there one or two boos also?

Good little appetiser - wouldn't mind seeing that as a 10 rounder again.

honestly i was bored with Fewkes-Reid. Reid was too slow on his feet to get the Sheffield man. Fewkes moved around the ring, tapping the tank-like Reid and moving again. He hardly let Reid do anything he needed to do.

Nowhere near as impressive as the previous outing for Fewkes. For me the best Brit prospects are Murray, Barker and Truscott, by an absolute mile.

I had Fewkes 78-75.

I thought he boxed sensibly. No point in trying to trade with Reid. He perhaps should have thrown a few more shots.

Fewkes won easily.

I like Fewkes, I really do, he's got some great moves, and has natural balance, but they really have to develop some punch power if he's going to progress much further. He needs to occasionally dart foward off the back foot, plant his feet and throw a really stinging combinantion.

well said. I only gave Reid 2 rounds, the first & the last.

how did sky score it?

I actually gave Reid more rds vs Olusegun. I felt he nicked at least 3 in that fight because Olusegun was tossing about and Reid was landing clean single shots over the 2nd half.

I agree with all except for the first line. I am a fan, just would have liked to have seen him throw more punches. We have all seen sometimes non effective pressure (which is what Reid was doing) win rounds if the mover isn't doing enough. For example, the card that had Thaxton five rounds up vs Dave Stewart.... That was definately scoring the fight for inaffective agression over effective but not enough. I know some here thought Stewart was winning, I had it close but for Thaxton and some of the rounds I scored for Thaxton I appreciated that Stewart was doing the better work but not enough of it. Even if Fewkes was missing, it would have looked a little better than doing nothing - as Ian said, just to throw more punches would have put it beyond any doubt.

I think Sky had it 5-3 Fewkes, as my card.
