A Comment from Joe

Post by snoopy »

Just read on Joes site http://www.joecalzaghe.com under news section joes column.

A comment to all who send messages and emails insisting I fight Syd Vanderpool:

Syd Vanderpool is just looking for a big payday. I want to fight a real fighter, a fighter that will do my career justice - not a wanna-be! If I fought everyone with a big mouth, I'd be fighting everyday of the week. Syd needs to focus on fighting his way up the job line at KFC.

I would have to say Jones & Hopkins feel the same way about Calzaghe.

IMO, Joe’s recent title defenses against Tocker Pudwill, Miguel Jimenez, Will McIntyre & a quick stoppage over Mitchell (After being Knocked down.) didn't do his career much justice either.

This response would have far more legitimacy if Joe hadn't fought the likes of Tucker Pudwill and Will McIntyre, both of whom are far inferior to Vanderpool. Unfortunately, as Joe has names like these on his resume, it's somewhat harder to take the moral high ground.
Incidentally Snoopy, can you explain one thing that baffles me with Sports Network and Mr W:
I saw in Boxing News an articulate and lengthy letter from Mr W addressing inaccuracies in criticisms that had been levelled at him through the readers' letters page. I thought it was a considered response that helped put the record straight and got across Mr W's position, so all in all a very effective strategy all round. Why then, does he not do the same with the same critics on the net (i.e. answer the critics and correct the inaccuracies), rather than just trying to shut them down wholesale?
I'm sure one reason you'll give is that it would take so much time, but as SN employees such as yourself are obviously active on the web, it shouldn't be that difficult should it?

I think Joes options are severely limited at Super Middle weight and he should move up into a whole new world of the light heavy weights

There are not many fights left for him at supermiddle weight that are bigger than Vanderpol.

Hopkins is not going to fight him because he is twat.
Ottke is scared to death of him (come on Robin)
Mads Larsen is a possibility, but he has just lost (even though he won) against Ottke
Mundine and Lacy are too green (as Johnny Nelson would put it) at the moment
All talk of Eastman-Calazaghe has died off along time ago

That IMO leaves him with Brian Magee (which I can't see FW being too keen on) and Robin Reid IF he beats Sven.

Personally I don't think Echols, Beyer and Lucas are the kind of class of opponent he is looking to fight.

IMO he should be looking to fight Tarver

If Joe wants the big fights so badly why doesnt he force them IE take on more or less all comers so everyone ends up demanding the Hopkins etc fight him!

Fighting the Pudwills etc of this world wont do that it will just result in the predictable stagnating of his career...

Joe want things put in his lap and it doesnt always work like that, sometime you have to go out and get what you want.

Chambers,
Joe’s options are severely limited at Super Middle weight only because his manager doesn’t have the confidence in him.

Hopkins is twat ?
Using Joe’s very words,
Bernard wants to fight a real fighter, a fighter that will do his career justice- not a wanna-be!
Hopkins is universally recognized as the top man his division.

Maybe Bernard hasn’t done much to solidify his position in the last few years but he’s facing his #1 contender Saturday.

Meanwhile, Joe’s been fighting Ottke leftovers and 3rd raters.
U have just named 11 guys he should have fought already.
(+U forgot Danny Green.)

Never mind Warren’s pitiful excuses, people want a fighting champion they can be proud of.
Joe Calzaghe is a wannabe, nothing more.
His actions speak louder than his words.
