It seems that Audley's greatest accomplishment will end up being the £1M he screwed the BBC out of.
He's probably very sataysfied with that, soy maybe he's not such a plum after all.

I think his Gold Medal may be his greatest accomplishment (to date). If the BBC are daft enough to start throwing their millions about willy-nilly then they deserve to have it taken from themShirow wrote:It seems that Audley's greatest accomplishment will end up being the £1M he screwed the BBC out of.

That's the thing, as far as i know the BBC haven't been in the habit of throwing their millions at individuals in this way before or since.
That's why i believe Audley's swindle was so impressive - they gave him the cash and total control over the fights that they were paying for.
Masterful.
If you truly believe that greater achievements than that or an Olympic medal lie ahead then i suggest making a call to Ladbrokes.

It's not so long ago Audley was linked with a fight with former Riddick 'Big Daddies' Bowe opponent Billy Zumbrun, and now here we are with Lee Swaby, sauced in Lincolnshire.
At 36, Audley really needs to caeser this last chance. Or face being left out of the heavyweight picture. And at 36, that is a chilli place to be. Of course, defeat in his last meaningful bout, a thundering knockout prevented him being Brought Back Quick. He's tikkad his time and hopefully the seasoning he's now acquired will allow him to ultimatly enjoy his coronation as the king of the heavyweights.
If does salvage meaning from his unsatisfactory career, it will be a reclaimation similar to the lifting of the marie rose. He certainly plumd the depths in the past seven years. Soy far he's enjoyed some decent wins, but the underlying criticism has been his lack of relish for a proper fight. Too often he's been concerned about a big punch leaving him in a hollandaise and glazed over, and its been reflected in his over cautious style.
Lets hope the rest leaves him feeling like a Newman, for it would be a shame were his talent not to be fulfilled. If he's forced to burger off before he's fulfilled his undoubted potential it will be a sad reflection on the decisions he's made to date, and the acclaim he enjoyed will remain an unresolved HP debt.
The frustration has been the fleeting glimpses of class he's shown. On a cajun he's looked a very capable fighter. Certainly fans will hope his performance versus Swaby doesn't mean he will balti for the States to reinvent himself again. It would be shame if he's left to wine over hat might have been.
He's never garlic'd anyone of note thus far really. He mayo or mayo not prove everyone wrong. Lets hope we can look back and say he rose, mary from the Sprott defeat.

The notion that Audley 'swindled' the BBC is ridiculous and laughable, they offered him £1m for his first 10 fights and he took it. Hardly a Raffles escapade was it?
I can't understand how the BBC valued Audleys first 10 fights at £1m, anybody with a molecule of boxing knowledge knows that a prospects first 10 fights aren't going to include a meaningful clash.

They pay Jonathan 'Look at me I look like Dartangion' Ross £18,000,000 over three years.
Both pick their own opponents, rarely engage in anything meaningful and though Ross is yet to refer to himself in the third person I'm confident he compensates by having a mirror on the camera.
Even allegedly said he would have done exactly what Harrison did if offered the chance too.

'BBC agrees to pay Audley Harrison for 10 pro boxing bouts for £1M'
I assumed there would be some sort of negotiation, the BBC Head of Sports would be involved and get advice and the legal team would make sure that the public funds were not being squandered by the agreement.
Surely AH must have painted a very different picture of the type of fights that would take place whilst in discussions but ensured that none of that could be enforced contractually.
I think selling a corporation the size of the BBC a lemon for a million virtually amounts to a swindle. However I've got no knowledge of the workings of the BBC so maybe you're right and getting a huge cheque out of them for something worth a small fraction of that is a piece of cake.
so you're saying that Audley told them that some of his first 10 fights would be meaningful proper fights and on the strength of that the BBC gave Audley £1m, but the BBC then failed to state this in the contract. I can't see how that happens. I find it very difficult to believe that Audley managed pulled a contractual fast one over a corporation the size of the BBC.Shirow wrote:I tend to think that there was more to the contract than...Chambers2 wrote:I live in hopeShirow wrote:That's the thing, as far as i know the BBC haven't been in the habit of throwing their millions at individuals in this way before or since.

I think its more like the BBC saw that Audley was a massive star after the Olympics and they saw the viewing figures that he generated during the Olympics and decided that they wanted to get back into boxing and pin Audley down, so they offered him £1m without any real understanding of what they were getting (thats my opinion of what I think happened anyway)
I wonder how much the likes of Kevin Mitchell and Amir Khan earnt in their first 10 fights, I bet it wasn't far off a mill (esp Khan)

I dont think its so much to do with Harrisons chin being weak, its his poor defense - The big men whack hard and if they find an opening its lights out no matter how good your chin is - That is what has made HW boxing so exciting through the years, one loaded punch landed flush and its all over.dr_devious wrote:Good oneMax Molyneux wrote:I'll buy him a chin Implant.![]()

It seems like a bygone era, but back after the Gold medal Audley had a lot of goodwill going and a seemingly likeable manner. The BBC deal was meant to include presenting opportunities, but as the public went off him quicker than a chunk of unwrapped wenslaydale on top of a penioner's wardrobe the exra curricular opportunities came to nish.
