SKY v BBC
What's good or bad with their boxing coverage, and what should they be looking to keep or change for 2004?

The Beeb need to bring back Gary Richardson as the best comedy interviewer in British boxing, promote Rawling or Mike Costello to commentator in place of Neilly(I quite like Costello). Get Abrams and Bunce back in tandem. Richie Woodhall is too nice, he gets on my tits. His world knowledge is piss poor. Duke Mckenzie needs to be gagged as well.
As for SKY, Ian Darke has had a poor year in my opinion. His biased commentary contaminates the viewer and his scoring leaves a lot to be desired. Adam Smith might be a gimp but aside from the Richard Williams-Martinez fight, I think he has good potential as a commentator.
Viewers are quick to slag Smith because he looks like a prick, and at times talks too much. But he creates excitement and knows his stuff. I'd move Barry Mcguigan alongside him in the commentary box. Glen and Ian have gotten too damn cosy.
ps next time Jim Watt commentates count how many times he says "What (fighter) should be doing now is showing a little feint and drawing (opponents) lead". He must say at least 5 times per bout for the last decade.

I think Darke's ok, the thing is you need the second commentator to have opinions of his own, he's got to pipe up and disagree when the lead guy says something stupid, and McCroy just agree's with everything ad nauseum.
As for the bbc; the guy who did the Klits fight is good (don't know his name), Neely is awful, every single fight is "very remeniscent of De La Hoya and Vargas just a little while ago", it's laughable; was that the first fight he ever commentated on or what, some little cherished memory, a milestone in his life that he just can't let go of?
Agree about sky needing to pressure Warren, they should insist that the won't televise any more of this wbu crap, we all pay extra for sky sports and they're trying their very best to con us.

GET RID OF JIM NEILLY!!!
He's like the pub bore you try to avoid, talking bollocks all the time.
Duke is a pain in the arse too. Nice bloke but his voice is not exactly TV friendly. But as long as they show the big fights I'm generaly happy, I'll even put up with Duke if they think he's that good.
Neilly is just too much though. In fact it'd be nice if in this digital age we could just press the red button and access different commentary, USA or UK - or even no commentary at all - just live audio from the arena.

I'm not really bothered about the presenters.
The commentators can be ignored if need be too.
The content is what matters.
Saturday is an unusual day for the BBC in that they have 2 offering, Audley/Nix and Ottke/Reid. This is a good day for the beeb.
But look what Sky are pulling out. A superb (well, it was b4 Witter pulled out) Domestic Card, followed by a Superb King card.
No competition at the moment.
The commentators can be ignored if need be too.
The content is what matters.

If SKY improved Warrens fights they would win hands down.
Obvously there is a financial consideration, I only have SKY for Boxing, I'm not interested in any other sports (apart from Snooker which is on BBC).
On the whole I would say SKy are some way better, better coverage, more in depth.
Jim Nearly has to go. I remember him commentating on a John Mugabi fight from the US once (it was one of those Saturday afternoon NBC things from the US)
When Mugabi came out for round 3 Jim Neilly said "Marvin Hagler coming out for round 3, showing no ill effects from his very recent fight with Mustafa Hamsho"

Sack Roland whatshisname, he is inept and dull and asks obvious questions.
Sack Jim Neilly, for god sake!!! During the Barrera-Pacquiao fight he claimed "Barrera had Tapia on his shorts as respect to his great friend Johnny Tapia", i was always understanding it was his mothers maiden name? He is crap and knows nothing.
Sack John Inverdale, he is smug and pretentious and thinks he has a divine right to be on our screens.
Water down Duke McKenzie, he is a very enthusiastic guy with a lot to offer but gets carried away in the heat of the battle and to be frank....talks complete bollocks!

Keep Paul Dempsey, he is the best anchorman around in any sport IMO.
Keep Ian Darke, he is the best Boxing commentator.
Tell Glenn McCrory he can do more than just jumbling Ian Darke's comments and repeating them himself straight after and stop his trademark saying, "That's right Ian".
Try and stop Adam Smith from getting excited everytime a fighter does as much as breaks wind, and rolling out his constant gabbled over excited cliches "TTTTAKKKESSS THE PUNCH WWWEELLLL" and "HHHEEES COMING BAAACCCKK FFFOR MMOOOOREEE".
