Hopkins sidebet with Joppy?

Post by Lugh »

BHop is just the ultimate Psy-Opps specialist. To bet Joppy 2/1 that he'll KO him (NOT TKO) is a pretty ballsy decision - Joppy can win even if he loses!

I reckon he's got to Joppy already.

Reminded me of the Hamed Robinson bout.

Hamed reputedly offered Robbo a winner takes all at FW's offices.

Its a great ploy IMO - to refuse is an admission of .....something - not sure if it is as simple as a lack of confidence, but I'll bet it helped Hamed's confidence.

Hmmm....I dunno thats entirely true.

You may feel you can beat someone comfortably without being prepared to bet your mortgage on it...

Gambling is unethical to some, and therefore confidence doesn't come into it. Some people just "don't bet"...end of. Robinson knew that if he lost to Hamed it would effectively end his career in the top flight, and without any money from that fight how would he support himself? It's just being financially shrewd and covering every eventuality.

Hopkins has got such a chip on his shoulder, I could listen to that guy all day he's funny as f"ck. This bet is going to make it very interesting if Joppy still has his legs under him after 6 rounds. I kind of hope Joppy doesn't get stopped, he obviously needs the cash more than the champion who after 16 defences of the middleweight title can hardly be skint, no matter what his popularity status is.
