I usually post in the "current scene" section, so sorry if this has come up before.
Has there been any talk of creating a database for amateur records (current and former) similar to the one for professionals? I bring this up because last night I found a box that had one of my amateur passbooks in it along with newspaper clippings and bout sheets from the early 90's. Can you believe USA Today used to report the daily results of the Junior Olympics? I know the USA Boxing publication results could be uploaded easily, and if people have bout sheets from local/regional events those could be scanned and added to the database. I know that professional bouts are verified by State commission reports, so the local reporting has the potential for abuse - honor system.
It was neat to look at the names of fighters from the amateurs and see where they are now as professionals - if they even turned pro. I also came across a photo from my time(in 1992) at one of the USA Boxing camps at the Olympic Education Center at NMU. There were 4 boxers in each weight class chosen. We were all pretty young then, but it was funny to see Pete Frissina - who I now live near in Tampa Bay, Aboyami Miller, Jimmy Joe Ziekle, Al Mitchell was one of the coaches. Time sure does fly. Anyway, thoughts on the amateur record database?
Amateur Record database?
Hi Jason - you just keep following me around! Glad to see you here.
Aboyami Miller.....such talent. Wonder what ever happened to him...
Almost impossible to keep a database of U.S. amateur boxers. Would have to have access to every boxer's passbook and not even local people keep track of that stuff. You're probably one of the few who have kept theirs. As you know, I can track an amateur's national and international results from 1987 to present, but that's the extent of my record keeping.

Journeyman - it could be done if one person in every LBC kept track of each of their boxers and recorded wins and losses after every local show or checked their passbooks at a local show. At one time I had a record for every boxer in the Southern California Assn. but that was many years ago. A former registration chair worked closely with me; the current doesn't.
