I STAND BY EVERY WORD!

From what I've been told about the Mesi-Barret coverage on the BBC, you brits missed the first 2 rounds of action which were 2 of Mesi's best rounds so you have not seen the FULL FIGHT!

It was a close fight but Mesi did enough to win by a round or 2.

This was exactly the kind of fight that Mesi needed and I'm glad some of the Hype and Pressure won't be on him anymore!

What else did the BBC say about Mesi? Please let me know!

Mesi did ok against a very average opponent Nasty but the fact is he will get pulled to pieces by any decent opposition.

Nice summary of Mesi.

I cant see him making much impact on the higher fighters at heavy.

The man steps in behind jabs like a rank amateur - he will get dealt with at the highest level.

I remember the first time I saw Scott Welsh (admittedly well behind Mesi in terms of skill) box live and was astounded by how crude he looked. I guess few big white guys have smooth technique and speed to boot.

Joe Mesi is still a work-in-progress

I'd rather his flaws be exposed in fights like these than in big Heavyweight Title Fights

The Barret fight has set him back by maybe 6 months but I srill expect him to become World Champion within the next 2 years.

I guess it's an Italian thing with Mesi

I'd admit he looked like shit from rounds 7 to 10 but remember this was the first time he'd been knocked down as a pro and the first time a fighter kept switching from Orthodox and Southpaw.

He'll learn from this BIGTIME!

Trust me, AMERICAN BOXING needs BABY JOE MESI else it could be in Trouble.

Let me ask you one thing though?

What did the BBC commentators say about him, especially Bunce who I have a Love-hate relationship with!

Incidentally it is interesting how suddenly, after an inexplicable dedication to danny williams, nasty is suddenly calling him lazy, a fraud, anyone could beat him...etc

Mesi lost that fight, I've no doubts whatsoever.

Barrett's face gave a wry grin at the decision, something I noticed. He (and most people) knew he'd pipped Mesi on points, but he'd never EVER get the decision in that fight.

Joe Mesi is unquestionably average.

I like the comparison with Peter McNeeley above, and would agree that's not far off. Christ imagine him in with Lewis, Toney, etc.... it doesn't bare thinking about. And that has nothing to do with his "developement" or what "stage of his career" he's at. The guy is quite simply...nothing special.

richie woodhal hit the nail on the head - LIMITED ABILITY. but then again marciano was no amazing boxing technician but he had tons of heart and was always in amzing shape.

Yes, he was. They showed the Marciano-LaStarza heavyweight title fight on Eurosport Classics the other day, and Marciano's conditioning was unbelievable. LaStarza was actually the better boxer, but just couldn't keep Rocky from coming. I once read that as champion, Rocky, in a 12 month period, would spend five months training for a defence, win the fight, take a month off, then spend the next five months training for the next one. Two defences in a year; 10 months training. Says it all, really.
