TITO MENDOZA, PAUL BRIGGS & STIPE DREWS

Post by Brute »

On October 6 Tito Mendoza (36-7) fights a ten rounder against Paul Briggs (26-3). 37 days after this (November 17) Menzoza is scheduled to fight Stipe Drews for the WBA Light Heavyweight title. BOXREC rates Mendoza 20 places behind Briggs.

Is it just me or is there something wrong with this picture? Is Mendoza taking Briggs for granted?

It sounds like a sheduling error on boxrec to me...

Would Mendoza even be allowed to fight 37 days after Briggs KHTFO?

Search me, but the Briggs/Mendoza fight is on the Maskaev/Peter card at Madison Square Garden.

I would have trouble following some of this alphabet soup with a road map and a compass.

Looks like the fight is off anyway. After Maskaev's problem the whole program seems to be evaporating.

I could have said "petering out" but under the circumstances......

Well, now it is official. Maskaev has pulled out of the fight against Peter because of his back injury. I somehow doubt that the program will go ahead without the champion.

The Briggs fight had actually been canned before the main bout was canncelled anyway, looks like Paul is gonna take some time away from the fight game...

He will want to watch his training, or he will finish up as fat as his twin brother.

no doubt, nathan could afford to lose a couple of kgs in his last few showings. But considering the level he was fighting he probably only wanted to get as fit as he needed without stressing his body, the dude is 32 after all. Im confident he will be in good shape to face alex leapai

Why is Paul taking time away from boxing? He hasn't fought that reguarly over the last few years and in his autobiography he was struggling for cash - be a shame to see him fall back on his old ways!

He makes pretty regular commentary appearances on mainevent, has secured some pretty major sponsorships with shadowboxer, firepower and lonsdale and his book has just had a second print so he'd be doing alright for money..
Who knows he might have a few investments already set up and his hunger was probably fuelled by the fact he didnt know where his kids next meal was coming from at times anyways if he has set himself up i think thats great because he deserves no less, there alot of people who live the same sort of life and see no reason to change

Hopefully he's set himself up nicely. For a personal point of view I think its a great shame as I always enjoyed watching him box, his fights with Drews and Adamek were a joy to watch.

I would not be relying on the "Firepower" sponsorship. South Sydney RLFC have dumped them as a sponsor because of suspicion about the validity of the product, which is supposed to improve gasoline consumption. I saw something about it sharing an ingredient with mothballs!

Are they also the ones who had dodgy dealings with the Western Force (I could be very mistaken here, just putting it out there)?
