Mario: "....Mitchell hits harder?......"...not sure how you work that one out. Johanneson is one of the more powerful punchers to come on the british scene in the last few years.

Mario: "....the likes of Johanneson"......what exactly does that mean. Carl has barely put a foot wrong. For someone who is so "slow, lazy bad etc..." not saying YOU said all that by the way....he has swept up domestically with ease and only come unstuck against a very competent, powerful, thinking boxer like Kirakosyan. Where's the shame? The phrase "the likes of Johanneson" I think kind of detract from Carl's achievement.

Also I have to question why anyone believes that the current Gomez is compared to Kirakosyan in this thread...."Carl showed he can come through this onslaught (from Gomez) so Kirakosyan really is his bogeyman etc..."..........go and watch the tapes again of both fights, Gomez used what he had left to have a good go, but his work was nohere near similar to that of Kirakosyan's.

When i said Mitchell hits harder i did say 'maybe'. I accept i may have got a little bit carried away but i guess we'll see come fight night.

Also, saying 'the likes of Johannesson' was not meant to be derogatory to him, perhaps i could have worded it better, but i think the quote from Mitchell that someone else mentioned in the thread sums it up:

"And let's face it, if I can't beat the current British champion, then I might as well pack it in. I want to win world titles at three different weights, so this fight is definitely a stepping stone to greater things."

Fair play Mario I wasn't trying to single you out for criticism or anything, and you have explained what you meant.
I just remember 3 -5 yrs ago those late nights on the BBC when Johanneson was coming through and I thought this guy could be heading all the way.
Power -wise he was blitzing people, and even now he's back in Britain and has a higher profile over here (he boxed in the U.S. for anyone who didn't know) not much has changed, he's still finishing his opponents inside the distance at Brit title level - I'm surprised Kevin Mitchell's power is even being mentioned in the same breath to be honest.
Don't get me wrong , I like Mitchell, good luck to him, have enjoyed watching him on many an occasion and comes across very down to earth in interview which is always nice to know the bloke you've just spent 20 minutes supporting doesn't turn out to be a tw*t....but he has done nothing for me to suggest he possesses Carl's power.

But like Carl, he too has got plenty of people on this forum queueing up to say he's no good or not going to amount to much, which from what I've seen is unjustified as he hasn't done much wrong in my opinion.
However I respect everybody's right to an opinion in case that ruffles feathers.

I agree, even despite Carl's dominance of the British scene if you can really call 2 or 3 fights that, I think Mitchell will have the tools for the job.

How can you be surprised by that?! I can see Mitchell taking him apart over nine rounds.

Carl will go after him all night so Mitchell better have "it" or he'll be found out.

Arf. Nice one.

On-topic: great great fight. It's mad what a crushing defeat or two will achieve in terms of brave matchmaking, innit?

All of a sudden all are thinking "I could do that" or at least "Fricking hell, I can do better than that".

We are entering a New Golden Age of British Boxing et cetera (cont. on p94)...

A bit random i know, but besides the cracking Mitchell-Johanesson fight, theres Haye-mormeck, hatton-mayweather, calzaghe-kessler, all possible classics, to look forward to, then just think of the potential match ups after that!

And they say Boxings dying!
the UFC meatheads have to say that. they seem to have a huge chip on their shoulder.
UFC meatheads? Listen, I love boxing, but when boxing fans try to take the moral highground over MMA it greatly amuses me. Either way, MMA is doing boxing a favour. I ABSOLUTELY think the threat of it has lit a fire under boxing, and we're reaping the rewards.

You can get it cheaper than that surely? If you book in advanced it's normally a lot cheaper, or come down before friday, more expensive at weekend isn't it?
