One of the great announcements in Australian sports

Post by Grant »

Who else gets a lump in their throat when the Ring Announcer says. This fight is for the "Heavyweight Championship of Australia"
I love it.
PBF, PABF, OPBF and whatever does nothing for me.

I will be watching the Wilson V Mirovic fight and when they get to the announcement I will think to myself. Yeah 'The Heavyweight Championsip of Australia.' all is right with the world of boxing again. To me it doesn't matter that much who is fighting, it's the title that is important.

Does that make sense?

very much so.. even though im a huge fan of both i think its stupid that nathan briggs, who has always fallen just be4 he hits big and alex leapai, who is still relatively inexperienced are fighting for the opbf, which gives a world rating it makes it seem a bit worthless...

I love it when 2 decent heavys have a go for the title, it means something

Kali Meehan is the best Heavyweight in Australia. With all due respect to Big Bob and the Coalminer Kid, the best heavyweight in the country should be the national champ.

I'd love to see Kali fighting the winner. Sure he'd win easy and he would be able to say hes the heavyweight champion of australia. It's worth the effort i think

Under ANBF rules, Kali would need to reliquish his NABO title to fight for OZ title. I doubt he'd do that.

Commonwealth Boxing Council's rules are the same.

Ben Crampton had to ditch is regional titles to fight for its title.

Isn't it ridiculous? Jimmy Carruthers held the World, British Empire and Australian Bantamweight titles at the same time in the 1950s. Nobody objected.

Lionel Rose was World and Australian Bantamweight champ when he defended his world title against Alan Rudkin. In beating Rudkin he added Rudkin's empire strap to his tally.

Would be great to see World and Aus title with the same person

but with so much money in the WT fights the Aus title would be neglected i guess

who does Col fight after this if he wins could get a little thin at the top with regial titles to other guys

he might have to do the same and look outside Aus and outside Aus title

I think Col will be happy to hit the local pub and tell blokes he beat Mirovic and retained his Aus title... I don't think he has too many world title aspirations ...

yeh just from what i can gather listening to qld boxing radio and watching in the red corner on youtube, boxing is more a leisurely persuit that col happens to be quite good at, so he keeps doing it.. i think he and blair work in a mine in blackwater or somewhere and make about 150Grand a year..

plenty of superannuation from 10years of doing that plus a bit of pocket money here n there from fights
